I have skin regimen questions: Does anyone use the Healing Aztec Clay (green colored if I'm not clear enough 🐥), every night? Not twice a day, but just once? I've had bad acne and started using Clearzine which has helped a little, but I still need my mask in my routine. And I wondered if I took out ACV and used Rosewater would that clear up acne more? Or less? :/

You don't wanna to use any mask that often clay Is ment to detoxify your skin once a week at the most any more than that you can dry your skin out and cause irritation and inflammation.

Like always Traci is right I can't help you on the rosewater but for the Aztec clay once a week was all my skin could handle it's insanely strong and drying after using it I had to use an intense moisturizer or my skin would be so dry and painful I actually only used the Aztec clay once weekly for a month and gave up because it so harsh on my skin start off with once a week and maybe you can handle it twice just be extra careful it's strong.

Rose water is a toner. It tightens pores and freshens that's all. It doesn't work on acne.

I only use it once a month and immediately follow-up with a non-active moisturizer that doesn't contain fragrance. Super basic. I add ACV to mine.

I've seen the Aztec clay paired with apple cider vinegar as well. I think the vinegar is supposed to work as a chemical exfolliant like AHA or BHA, since those are basically weak acids. And the clay is supposed to suck impurities out of the skin. I can't use clay masks since I have combo skin and they just make things dry.

Do you really need this for anti-acne or will this just make things worse? I think stirring up the skin with with masks and exfolliant might do more harm than good. If you are doing kitchen skin care, trying dabbing a little coconut oil on breakout areas. Every acne breakout I've ever had (including nasty body acne) has been best defeated with coconut oil, which is naturally anti-bacterial. It sounds counter-intuitive, but just try dabbing a bit of oil on a zit and see if it isn't dried out by morning. It works.

@Jenny...coconut oil is great but it can further irritate acne as well since some people unknowingly may have an allergy to it. I have oily/combo skin and my skin loves it while my daughter who has oily skin as well with acne...hates it. She will break out with more acne if she just applies a smidge of it on her face. I can't speak for everyone but if I don't use an exfoliant or a some sort of mask my skin will look nasty congested. You can use clay based masks on your skin...you just have to be aware of what other items are added into it to so it doesn't dry you out. Such as jojoba oil, glycerine, vitamin e, shea butter. Not all clay based masks are drying. ;)

I didn't realize that, Shelley. It makes sense. Exfoliant has really helped me get rid of blackheads, I admit. But I just have to be really careful with it because it can make my face irritated. I've switched to a very gentle formulation, but it still sometimes is a bit too harsh.
I know a lot of people swear by face oils (orange oil is one I've seen) as well to help with breakouts. It's like fighting fire with fire and might work if a person were allergic to coconut.

Ouch! Orange oil!? I hope diluted. I can't touch that one with a ten foot pole. I haven't heard about orange oil in years. It sounds like your skin might be better suited for an enzyme peel as an exfoliant. I just made mention of one to another beauty here on BL. 100% Percent Natural Pineapple Enzyme Peel. It comes in a powder and you activate it by adding a little water to it (place a lil powder in your palm and add water). I sometimes use one from AmorePacific when I want something quick and don't feel like using my AHA serum. It doesn't go deep into the pores but it certainly clears the top portion of the skin of junk (plus it makes mskeup application a dream because the skin isnt congested and dull looking).

The orange oil was formulated in a face oil. It wasn't orange oil on its own which would be more than a little bit harsh: I use it to clean my make up brushes. Pineapple enzyme is powerful stuff. You can essentially cook meat if you leave it marinating in pinapple pulp. I have put pineapple chunks in my juicer before and the amount of pineapple enyme I get on my hands is enough to do a good job of cleaning up my cuticles (and burn like the dickens on any open cuts).
One of the weirdest exfoliants I've found was in a dandruff shampoo. Some formulas are 2% AHA which is what you get in the serums. TFAL has one that is just a very gentle shampoo with AHA and nothing else. I found that if I washed my face with it and let it sit a few minutes then rinsed my skin was really radiant the next day. Quite drying though. I needed to moisturize afterward, as with any AHA. It was a lot cheaper than the AHA I'm using now, though.

Oh ok. Mixed in a carrier oil or formulated in a product its fine. Made me nervous there for a minute when you mentioned orange oil because some folks think its fine to apply without diluting. Dandruff shampoo...I've seen that...AHA. Its perfectly fine for the scalp and better alternative to what was once added in those formulas years ago. I'm using a 20% AHA serum and I only reach for maybe once a week. But if I use the Aztec Clay mask with the AVC...I tend to leave out the AHA serum. Especially during the winter.
