Hi girls,

My boyfriends had really had eczema on his hands for the last few months, (he gets eczema other places and he can manage it well) but it doesn't seem to be getting better or worse when using prescribed cream. It's always worse after he showers so he thinks it's his shampoo causing it, he normally uses just cheap shampoo so we are on a hunt for something that won't make his hands flare up, any ideas? Sorry for the mass of writing!

Idk if your asking for a good eczema shampoo for the scalp or that wouldn't irritate his hands but Shea Moisture has one that's called African black soap specifically for eczema and psoriasis and dry scalp. Hope I helped girl.

His skin is drying out from the hot/warm water. He should use a soft, nubby towel to exfoliate gently any areas where scaling occurs just after his shower. Then, he should apply a moisturizer, like CeraVe dry skin formula. After 30 minutes, I'd then apply my prescription cream.

I kind of doubt that it's the actual shampoo that's causing the flare up. My eczema always gets worse after a shower because of using hot water. The best is to shower less frequently and try to use luke warm or cool water when showering. Also don't take long showers. I like to use warm water but when I wash my hair I use very cold water and I find my skin is less irritated. I use Aveeno Shampoo and I think it works great. I have extremely sensitive skin and it doesn't irritate me at all. As for soap I use natural soaps from the health food store. My favourite is Pine Tar which is supposed to help eczema and Aloe + Vitamin E soap which is good for dry skin. Also when he finishes showering he should lightly pat down his skin so that it's still damp and then apply moisturizer. Then I would apply the prescription cream 15-20 minutes later when the skin is dry.
