I just recently found out that I am having some thyroid issues and one of the side effects is hair loss and I am losing a lot! Does anyone else have issues with this? If so did your hair return to normal once you started treatment? TIA.

I have Graves' disease! I (thankfully) never had symptoms associated with hair loss and I am sorry to hear you are! I hope once all your levels are back to how they should be this will go away, have you mentioned this to your endo already?
Best of luck <3

I have my first appointment with my endo this Wednesday, I'm not sure what I'm actually diagnosed with but from some testing done by MT general practitioner I have a diffused goiter and some hyperactivity going on. From my research everything is pointing to Graves but I know these types of thyroid disorders can be hard to diagnose. I just want it to stop already ita awful I'm big on hair so this is seriously tearing me apart right now.

Sorry to hear that Ashley. I know how horrible thyroid issues can be. I have hypothyroid so hair loss and dryness along with dry skin is a big part of it. My thyroid is controlled now but it seems that the side effects will always be there.

Lala - thank you that really means a lot to me.
Yanin - I'm so sorry, they really are horrible. I do feel a little better knowing I'm not the only woman dealing with these issues for a while I felt like I was.

Alexis & Jacqlyn I definitely am, just trying to see if anyone else has gone through something similar. Before I started having issues I never even knew about these diseases so it's a little comforting to know I'm not alone

I have hypothyroid as well and yes hairloss is a symptom but with good protein diet it can be reduced once your levels are within the normal range. I hope you feel better soon and its not that bad once you accept it and accept that few symptoms will be always there they might come and go but will be there. just make sure you take your meds daily and go to your endo every 3-4 months.

Ashley at first they do same happened to me as well and the symptom I hate the most is weight that comes with this disease and the struggle we have to do to lose even a single pound. but we have no choice so have to deal with it.

While everyone is different my mom has a thyroid disease ( not sure the name ) she as well suffered with hair loss & the weight gain she takes pills everyday as well. while her weight is in check & she stopped losing hair it continued to be thin & didn't return to normal. I understand the insecurities about your hair I have them too after my babies my hair started to thin & my hair is all I have going for me. beat of luck at the Dr they will definitely have better answers & ideas... big gugs.

You need to go talk to a doctor this is more of a beauty forum not medical advice.

@Christine I'm on 137 mcg levothyroxine too! I also don't notice when I stop taking it / take it late but I think maybe it's just because endocrine is slow response? :) However before I had the radiation done on my thyroid I was hyperthyroid and if I missed my medication by like an hour I'd feel all off kilter! I'm sorry to hear about your hair <3
I'm surprised how many ladies in this thread have thyroid issues lol auto immune sistas for life!! :*

I don't have a thyroid issue but I lost nearly all my hair at 13 due to a medical issue. I KNOW how hard it is to deal with hair loss and I understand the many emotions that you must be going through! As girls and women hair is part of what defines us! It's not just hair it's a part of us! It's part of our personality and our beauty! I know what you're going through and I wish you the best of luck with your treatment and I sincerely hope that your hair returns to normal ASAP! My prayers are with you and feel free to comment on my account if you ever want advice on dealing with how to style and treat your hair! :)

Jenna I know this is a beauty forum that's why I asked If anyone also had hair loss and if I could get some insight into what may happen in my near future. I'm not asking for medical advice I'm very aware that this is an issue that needs to be taken care of by a physician, I'm just trying to connect with other women who are experiencing or have experienced something similar and as you can see there are lots of us who can benefit from this post.

To everyone else I really appreciate your uplifting words and I thank you all for being such a great support system, it's hard to talk to any of my friends or family not because they don't care just because they've never dealt with these issues nor have they known anyone else with them so I feel very much alone at times with this struggle. It is surprising to see how many of us are going through something similar.

I have Hashimotos. If you have facebook. Find the group Hashimotos 411 and join. Endo didn't help me I go to a holistic dr. And I had to change my diet to more AIP.
Stop the thyroid madness is a website that can get You started with all the info You need. In many cases ppl also suffer from Adrenal fatigue which can be tested with a cortisol test. It's hard my eyebrows and hair fell out at one point and constant inflammation but with diet and supplements I have seen a whole world of difference. Good luck.
