There really isn't any...other than it'll be on you forever lol but that's not really a bad thing I don't think

I agree with Erica. I haven't decided to get my first one yet but I will be eventually lol. I don't think there are any consequences so to speak, just make sure it's something you like. It doesn't have to have meaning, so if you genuinely like something or have liked something for a long time there's no reason you shouldn't get it, don't listen to those people that will say "you can't have a tattoo without meaning" because you can. As long as you go to a good, sanitary place then you'll be consequence free. :)

You might also want a place where you can get it covered up if you need to be. The back of your ear or your shoulder is easy places to both display and conceal it. I do know that tattoos can put off employers because it happened to my cousin who had one on her wrist and her interviewer judged her harshly for it but other then that a tattoo is a great way of self-expression as long as you can keep it classy and professional

I think the only consequences of them would be if they show sometimes people hire you. Some places do but some don't. Where I live a lot of places won't.
Getting something you regret. Which won't happen most likely as long as you think about what your getting and know it's something YOU want. Because they don't come off. (Unless you do the really really expensive thing they do to remove tattoos.
It could get infected if not taken good care of when you first get.
Other wise I don't think there are any other consequences. Everything else is good.
I know in definitely getting two tattoos :) I might end up with 3 or 4 though haha

In certain professions you cannot have them showing, so its better to get them where they can be easily covered.

When your older you might regret getting it ,and some places might not like having your tattoos showing if you work there , I don't have any tattoos because I'm only 14 but you could always just get one of those fake tattoos and wear those and see how you like it or you could design a fake tattoo and wear it because then if you don't like it then it won't be permanent on your skin for the rest of your life

I'm only 14 and there's people who have tattoos my friend has one of her niece and her moms name on her arms but it will only be painful and be on you forever it may eventually fade but get them once your older a lot of people have them and I can see regrets when their older lol!

My other friend did a full arm tattoo in 1 day and she said it hurt like hell! So honestly there really isn't bad consequences

The only consequences I could think of would be going to the wrong shop/artist. you really want an experienced light hand artist, because if not, your tattoo can be too deep and it will scar. (rather then being smooth)
Plus make sure it's something meaningful that you REALLY want.

What does your mom do?

I don't think it matters, all I'm saying is she is covered in tattoos + a few piercings, works an office job, and she makes great money. She's also never had problems with landing a job despite all the tattoos she has. Maybe it's just where I'm from, though. They're more lenient when it comes to what one does to themselves.

I agree with Renay lol, I know plenty of people who have piercings and tattoos and still have jobs. I think it's quite rude to sit there and state "unemployment" like everyone with piercings or tattoos can't do anything with their lives when they're just as capable as anyone else.

They might be capable of doing such things, but in our society having tattoos and piercings imply that you lack such skills. Hence Rebekah's hesitations.

What even. I don't even know how to respond to that, all I know is I'm not an idiot and I have plenty of piercings. Like I said, it's rude to assume everyone with piercings or tattoos are idiots. Which is how I interpreted your comment.

Sorry I didn't realize a butterfly above your butt crack is a symbol of power.

@whitney our society is starting to accept the uniqueness of piercings and tattoos, it's an artistic expression and a way to put your story on your skin, limiting someone to their artistic freedom because of their body is wrong, I think as long as a person in qualified for a job it doesn't matter what's on their body.

Whitney, you're obviously just ignorant of other people.

I think it's hilarious that you are shamelessly assuming that people who choose to modify their body how they please actually has an effect on their intelligence. A bit of a bigoted way of thinking, no?
