Put coconut oil on before you dye/bleach it. It helps, believe me :)

Is there a way to go blonde without bleaching it?

If you want blonde hair you'll have to bleach it.

You will need to bleach it (in my experience) if you don't get rid of all the red you may end up with orangey hair! I used a bleach and lightning kit from Stinky Fish and it's not to harsh on your hair compared to others I have used in the past. But honestly I would get this done by a professional or atleast seek there advice: it could go drastically wrong.
I had red hair and I went brown: you can still see red in it and this is the 3 time I've dyed it a dark almost black colour and it's still noticeable in the light!

How red is your hair?

Youll need to strip the red color out of your hair or fade it as much as possible to avoid any orange tones for one.

I plan on going blonde myself and based off the research I've done after stripping the color out the base color should be anywhere between yellow/orange blonde. depending on how light you want the blonde to be you can apply a toner or youd have to apply a bleach to go lightee or a box dye. However these are all at home methods and potentially could be VERY damaging to your hair. If you want to avoid as much damage as possible you couls strip the color out of your hair yourself and then go to a salon.

My hair was fire red and I thought it would be easy to go from red to blonde so I put a blonde dye on my hair and my roots are blonde and the rest of my hair is red orange
