That's a super cute fishtail! Unfortunately there's no easier way to do it. But if I can make a suggestion, I'd take even smaller sections so that the braid looks more complicated, and you could even rough it up a bit to give it a more textured feel :)

You did a great job for your first time! The first time I did it on myself it didn't even look like a braid lol. I agree with Hannah about taking smaller pieces at a time!

You can puff it a bit so that the braid would look thicker and add accessorize it with a bow or smth. But you did great, I always leave after secondc inch, the hands are paining so bad:-)
