I used to have beautiful curls and since I started to use my curling wand for bigger and looser curls, my hair will no longer curl on its own. I thought if I cut it shorter it would help, but 4 inches later, still nothing. Does anyone have any tips? I'm heart broken!

I hate to say it but your hair is over processed and there is no way to undo the damage. The best way is to begin to "go natural" by letting your hair grow out and keep clipping until all of the damaged hair has been cut. Hope i've helped!! Also try using rollers overnight in place of wand curls!!

I feel your pain, my beautiful 3b/3c curls have been destroyed from heat tools. I've been growing it for about six months and I see my curls coming back. but like Jay La said, you have to keep trimming. it just like if you're going natural without the big chop. Good luck hun!

Thank you ladies! Wish there was another way to undo the damage :( but growing out will have to do. Do rollers damage the hair as well?

I have used the motions CPR protein conditioner to restore my natural curls and it does do the trick, at least for me. Try that and then follow it with a moisturizing conditioner.

if you really want to avoid the damage, rollers with heat are a nono. if you can't live without it, blow dry your hair on high speed, lowest heat, and invest in some stream rollers :-)

How do you straighten your hair Kristin? like, what's the process for you :-)

I don't really straighten my hair. And I do it's very rarely with a flat iron. My biggest issue was the curling wand. For about 6 months now, I have been using the wand for those big barrel curls. The outcome was gorgeous, but now I noticed that my curls are gone. It's literally dried straight.

It doesn't feel damaged or dry, but I also just cut off 4 inches. It's just straight now.

Yes! Go completely natural! My best friend had the most beautiful curly hair, and when she started using heat a lot and dying it her hair went pin straight. She only figured it out when she went back to being all natural and doing oil treatments, no heat, and so on and so fourth that her curls came back completely and look amazing :)

Try main and tail shampoo and conditioner. My hair was really badly damaged from coloring it, it literally felt like straw. I use that shampoo and conditioner and seen an immediate difference.

macadamia deep hair repair masque!!!!!! That did WONDERS to my hair! I straighten it every day, & permed it three times! And it's amazing. You'll notice a difference the first time you try it!

Make sure when you're doing the protein treatments , you only do them every 4/5 days , not every day. Protein can have the adverse affect if over used.
In between use a moisture/ repair daily conditioner- only shampoo every 3-4 days- you can condition every day though .
Use a leave in conditioner daily. Sprays are good, Moroccan oil daily. Or oil products. Moroccan oil is pretty good though . They make a great repair mask & daily shampoos & conditioners.
Curly hair is naturally dry & porous because the cuticle us open. When you damage it further, you need to feed it. Be good to it, nourish it. Moisturize ! Moisturize! Moisturize!
I'm a hairstylist . Curls are my specialty , you can bring it back to life.
Oh, and a good haircut will help a bit. I usually reccomend every 3-4 months, to keep/get it healthy. ;)

It will always be damaged but try to go for a couple weeks with no heat (straightners, curlers, blowdryers, etc...) and gradually start to use heating tools again making sure to use HEAT PROTECTANT

Have you tried scrunching it? Definitely check out a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment! Those help a lot. A good product that I LOVE for curls is Paul Mitchell's fast form. Its a cream gel, and it won't leave it sticky or crunchy! Plus it smells wonderful! Check it out. Also have you considered layers? That may also help for when your hair grows back in longer. Try to get your ends trimmed every 2 months.

Oops forgot to add. Invest in a heat protector if you're going to use hot tools (flat iron, curling iron). It'll protect your hair from the heat. Also, turn the heat of your curling wand down!
