After every time I wash my face, I use aloe gel as a moisturizer. my skin FEELS soft, but for the first ten minutes there are little patches of dry skin that weren't really there before. a little later the patches disappear and everythings fine, though. what does this mean, and should I stop using the aloe gel? thanks for your help :)

Maybe you could try using it in conjunction with another, stronger moisturizer. From what you've said it doesn't sound like the aloe is moisturizing your skin enough on its own. However, I see no reason to stop using the aloe, it doesn't appear to be irritating your skin or anything :)

Ill do that, thank you :) would you have any idea why I see small dry patches only after I apply the gel? I'm curious :P

@Naomi I thought that too at first, but upon closer inspection I'm positive the patches were of dry skin.

What Naomi said actually makes more sense to me. Maybe the Aloe is just drying on top of your skin first.

Ah. Well then I really don't know, maybe it's just taking a bit longer than normal to sink in?

I see. but where do the dry patches go?. do you scrub em or put anything on top.. dry patches definitely don't just fade out. I wish life were that easy. lol.

They do disappear, though, which is why I'm confused -_- they appear after I put on the gel, and disappear after some time. it probably is the gel drying on top, and I just thought it was skin because it dried with the impression of pores and looked like skin :P I appreciate your help ladies, sorry it was so confusing.

Well aloe Vera is a humectant, it absorbs the water from the atmosphere into your skin, so it works great as a moisturizer if you live in a humid climate. If you live in a dry climate, it will just take the water out of your skin, so it should be sealed with an oil or butter to keep the moisture in. This could be causing the dry patches, but then again, it could just be the gel drying on your skin and flaking.

Lexi is right.
its just that it would cause permanent dry patches until you do something about it (exfoliate, add a moisturizer). so its most likely the gel drying. but I would use a light moisturizer on top with spf in it.

I use it after every washing, and sometimes on my upper lip I see some dryness but it has worked really well and has been great for my skin!

Around my lips is where I get most of the patches as well :0 I'm glad it works for you, and ill definitely keep it in my routine, but ill just be sure to apply an oil to keep it in :)

I used to mix aloe vera & moisturiser together after I toned my face. The reason that I do that is because I felt the aloe gets flaky when it's drying.
