someone that I just met, said that BareMinerals was like putting dirt on your face. This person said it was bad for you. Well i just can't believe that because if it was that bad, then it wouldn't be sucessful.
What do you girls think?

maybe they meant dirt in the sense that both are full of minerals/mica/etc lol idk i thought it was free of all the bad stuff and that was one of the selling catches of mineral makeup ??

It's minerals. Id rather put 'dirt' on my face than toxic chemicals anyday! It's actually really good for skin.

Coming from someone who has worked at Ulta for 2 and a half years and sales a lot of bare minerals I am not a big fan of it. For older woman it seems to work beat because it doesn't settle in their fine lines and wrinkles. Yes it is like dirt because it is all natural and it stains like crazy. Hence do not get it on white counter tops. Coming from a personal experience of using it, it has always broke me out.

It doesn't mean dirt the kind you get outsides, but it's made of the same compounds. It also does not photograph well. It turns ashy. Brides should not use it.

Minerals are just a fad that's dying out, but if you must use Laura Mercier's mineral powder. If you're wanting foundation with added benefits try Josie Maran

I dont think Bare Minerals is dirt. Its actually pretty good for you! But it isnt my favorite... It doesnt stay on very long and they use animal testing.. :P

I agree, Kimberly. I think mineral makeup is a total fad but I think Bare Mineral will remain strong in the mineral market.

I dont think bare minerals is like dirt, but i dont think its as good as they advertise it to be either, a powdered concealer doesnt work as well as a liquid one and i thnk it drys your face out.

Most makeup brands test an animals. At least it's not toxic to them.

Treats my skin just fine though I don't wear it often. Its only a benefit for me in the summer when my skin is super oily. In the winter it craves something moisturizing.

wow. didnt expect so many response. Thank you. Well i have been using it for a long time, and i wonder if its a reason why i break out. Lately I have been breaking out. I went to my dermatolgist. I have to get my new anti-biotics the end of the week so maybe that will help. Not sure, trying to figure it out. Fondation in general makes me break out, so its hard to find a good cover up.

I have to agree with @ash k. I wanted to love it because after all this was Mineral based make up, I mean what's not to love, but it broke me out horribly.. "Sleep in it" as they suggest in their adds? Not gonna happen, it also left my skin oily.

That person is really uninformed. Almost all major and non- major brands of makeup have chemicals that are bad for your health. People just don't won't to hear that or believe it. Ignorance is deadly bliss to them. So in a sense dirt would be 1000% better for us. But even with the dirt remark she is wrong. All makeup has mica and minerals that are from the earth but are more like ground rocks then dirt.

I also wanted to love it and I kind of do (if that makes sense). BM really tends to enhance your imperfections and perfections. I have combination skin and my cheeks are smooth when I put the makeup on my cheeks it makes them look perfect but I also have enlarged pores on my nose and it really makes them noticeable. It's a love hate relationship with this product

Minerals form physical blocks on the skin. The most commonly known is titanium dioxide, a wonderful sunblock. All good lines will carry some concentration of minerals in their products. Whether a line hypes it or not is up to marketing and the concentration in certain products. Personally I agree the ladies who think BM is a fad. However, whatever products you use, everyone should see the benefit if using it. Let's be honest, with the amount of money we all spend- each product should do wonders for us!

I actually really like Bare Minerals... It's better for me to use in the winter because in the summer my face gets too oily and it comes right off.. other than that I love it!

I loved the way Bare Minerals looked on my skin. I tried using for 6+ months and finally had to give it up. I had a burning sensation on my face especially when I was outside in the sun. It also created a dry, red, flaky area around my nose. I was very sensitive to it and I don't usually have problems with any other makeup lines.

I believe quite vehemontly in Bare Minerals. However, you must be careful with the formulations. The original formulation contains Bismuth Oxychloride, a pore-clogger, which happens to make it 'sparkly'.
The matte formulation, however, does not; making it perfectly fine for the skin. I have found vast improvements in my complexion since I have made the educated switch {I am an esthetician}.
I do, however, still have problems with 'flakes'. Although that problem is more attributed to my very dry skin {due to hypothyroidism} and a good exfoliant as well as using Wella's 'Skin Food' before applying my makeup seems to remedy that quite well, and my skin always look s remarkably flawless with mineral foundation. The staying power is a huge plus as well. I use to be a huge fan of Chanel's 'Double Matte' although it wore off halfway through the day. Minerals do not have this problem, and I am thankful for that as I don't like to fuss with applying make-up more than once a day!

You have to be so careful with "mineral" make up. With it becoming so popular in the last few years a lot of make up brands have now jumped on the band wagon and pumped them out with all the chemical nasties of a loose powder. Bare Minerals is one of the flagships but it still isn't as natural as they like to make out. I've personally used it and found it to be incredibly irritating. As with any make up I believe it's a case of trial and error. Find one that works for you and stick with it :-) I personally love the Emani pressed mineral powder, but someone else may equally hate it!

I have never been able to get into mineral foundation, I have some but I think its more of a mental block that I just feel like its not the look im supposed to have.

Iv 20 and have been using bare minerals foundation for about 4 months now, its helped the natural balance of my skin, i dont come out in spots any more. I couldnt be happier with it. Any liquid foundations always seem to fill my pores and i have to cover them up with more makeup. Its a vicious circle that for me bare minerals has finally broken.
