I find it soooo much easier to use an angled brush and gel. The brush does all the work for you.

I recently got it down pretty damn near perfectly. what worked for me is basically the opposite of what Danielle posted. first I line the lids, going back and forth between the two to make sure they match nicely. because I have hooded eyes, I've found sharper angles work best for me. I start with my brush just below the end of my crease, then drag it in a straight line so it hits barely above the outer corner of my eye. then I fill in the top corner (picture 2 in danielles infograph), being careful not to run it into my low crease. sometimes, when it's done I run a little shadow into my crease and/or underneath the eye. I think the biggest challenge is finding the angle that works for you. I was forever messing my liner up because I was following charts, tutorials, and photos of eyeliner on eyes not shaped like mine. I always ended up with weird, curved, Amy Winehouse like eyeliner, which was cute on Amy, but too much for me for everyday (and always resulted in mismatched wings). so just keep practicing and find what angles and brushes work for you.
