Does anyone know of any face washes that are good for cystic acne? I usually get a couple of cysts around that time of the month. I currently use derma doctor face wash for acne prone skin and it was somewhat working but it has salicylic acid in it so I think my face is getting use to it or maybe irritated because my face usually turn red after I wash it, unless that normal?

I'm unsure about a good acne cleanser but just added a salicydic aid in my routine and my face was red and irritated because its harsher than what my skin is used it to. I would cut back on using that so often or find a cleaner that maybe has less salicylic acid in it.

Salicylic acid has a tendency to irritate your skin. For cystic acne, a sulfate wash works well and buy a super gentle cleanser. A salt water solution also helps ease the pain of the cysts :)

You need a clarisonic in your life :) I use tea tree cleanser by the body shop and bare minerals cell renewal serum at night. I only get maybe 1-2 cysts a month now and they are small and go away quickly with little scarring 👌

Hi Delaney! Yes I'm deff going to try to cut out the salicylic acid because it did irritate my face! Now I know I'm not the only one! Thank you!

Brandy if I had money I would totally buy the clarisonic and that tea tree cleanser because I hear nothing but good things! But as for now I have to stick with some other methods that are cheaper and save up for those! Lol college girl problems!

But thank you for helping with brandy! I will be sure to eventually try!

Anupa what is the name of the cleanse on the left? It's hard to read. And if you use both cleansers when do you use each one?

Clinical works fresh faced purifying wash :) I switch it up but I do wash my face once a day. If I use the clean and clear in the morning I use the clinical works at night and vice versa! Both do a good job of removing make up so that isn't an issue. I also find that I don't get cysts anymore after adding the oil cleanse to my nightly routine

Hey girl. Okay so I had horrible acne when I got off birth control.
I had as many as 20 cysts on my face. It hurt when I touched my face & even when I smiled. Terrible, right? I didn't have health insurance to go to a derm. So I had tried EVERYTHING!! From pro active to everything in a drug store. I even would stick needles in my face and use knives. (I was so desperate to have my clear skin back) But nothing seemed to work. I stop using face washes & oddly my face started to clear. If you have sensitive skin like me, those product with salicylic acid only irritates my skin. I remember before getting of birth control & even when I wasn't on it, I never had to take care of my skin. I could go to bed without washing my face (parties & passing out haha), so I decided well if my face was clear when I didn't do anything let's try that again. So obviously I use something to get my makeup off with, & it's CeraVe, along with massaging coconut oil into my face after & rinsing with cold water. I do that before bed. In the morning I don't use the CeraVe, I just lather on that good ol' coconut oil. It's helped tremendously. I also do face masks. Like the Say Yes To Tomatoes mask, & a Sulfer ointment 10%(ordered off Amazon). Although I still get breakouts, my face is so much better then what it was.
Good luck!

Hey lauren!! yeah I feel like the face wash with the salicylic acid irritated my skin and made it worse! right now I currently have cetaphil in my bathroom that my family uses so I am thinking about trying that because I hear it is kind of like CeraVe and this one is FREE so I have to try it lol and see how it does, and if it doesn't work I can always try the CeraVe! I also have organic coconut oil that I use for hair treatments so I can try to use that for my face as well! anupa who also wrote in this post said she uses the oil cleanse method as well so I want to see what brand and oil she uses. what brand of coconut oil do you use? I use the one from the vitaminne shoppe that is called spectrum and it is organic pressed virgin unrefined coconut oil for my hair so I am hoping it can be used for the face as well but I am not sure.

I don't buy premixed cleansing oils because I'm terrified of some of the additives in them (my skin is mucho sensitive) I mix different oils with castor oil. Here's a list of my oil cleansing:
unrefined Castor oil: highly cleansing and disinfecting; Its used as a base and can't be applied to the face without having another oil to balance it
Sweet Almond Oil: Moisturizes, cleanses and soothes red skin. Also helps with strengthening and growing eyelashes and brow hair
Jojoba: moisturizing and has healing properties
Sunflower: moisturizes extremely dry skin and balances the pH of skin
Neem oil: Acne treatment and natural disinfectant; has a strong smell; I suggest adding a drop of another one of the suggested oils so that your skin won't dry up
Coconut: disinfecting, moisturizing; thicker than other oils in consistency
Just put some castor on your palm (this is what makes the difference) and add any combination of the other oils to it. The ones I mentioned work on acne prone skin :) I hope this helps

This may be weird but I got this in the cooking oil section at Wal-Mart. Lol. & it has worked!! In my hair & on my face. Now you have a much better coconut oil. The one you have should work even better then mine.
I've read things about the oil cleansing method & I've always wanted to try it.
Once you find out the oil, let me know! I'd love to give it a try too.

I see Neem oil on her list. I actually take a neem supplement because I've heard it helps with acne, that along with a Burdock root supplement. I've read these both help with cystic acne. & they are probably playing a big role in the clarification of my skin.

Neem is also amazing with cleansing out and purifying your blood stream :) by taking the neem on a daily basis you're loving your insides hahahaha. The combination of neem and burdock also aids in healthy hormone levels! So you're absolutely right, they're definitely helping you out :)

Can you just buy these oils in like a health food store? or is there a certain brand to get that works better? and the neem and burdock roots sound like a good idea to take too and lauren I will let you know which oils I decide to use when I figure it out! right now it looks like neem and castor oil because neem seems to works the best for acne and maybe if you massage it in into your skin some of it will be abosorbed into your body somehow like taking the pill? lol but I just have to experiment! I'm just so afraid to use oils on my face but maybe if I mix some oils like what anupa said it might work better since my face is sensitive.
Feb 28, 2014
Nicole B.
And maybe jojoba oil too since I have to add another oil since the neem is kind of drying like anupa said
Feb 28, 2014
Anupa M.
I swear by it! Massage in for like 30 seconds and then wash it off with a gentle cleanser :) You can get most of these from your local Indian grocery store - it'll be cheaper than a health store hahaha

Awesome! Thanks ladies! I will be trying the castor oil!

Haha okay! Thank you so much Anupa and Lauren! Can't wait to try it out!!
