I have very long hair and I feel like lately it's been getting really unhealthy. Because I have oily roots, I shampoo and repeat everyday but my tips are getting more brittle and splitting faster from shampooing twice. I've tried using a deep conditioner on the tips and a tad on the roots but it doesn't seem to be working! :(
I hope that made sense.

Get a sulfate free shampoo. What happens is if your skin or hair is dehydrated, your body will produce more oil to make up for it. So I"m guessing at the slightest bit of dehydration your scalp went into overdrive for producing oil.
A great shampoo is Carol's Daughter's Monoi Oil Sulfate Free Shamoo. Great stuff. The Monoi oil is really reparative, and if you can, I would def. recommend the treatment as well.
Hope that helps.

i have really oily hair too and ive found some things to help it.
first i went into lush and picked up: the hair doctor and rehab shampoo (small bottle or ask for a sample). between the two, hair doctor helped with the balance of oils in my hair and then rehab is full of oils (which i know is the last thing you want to put on your hair! but hear me out haha) which helped out with nourishing my hair and scalp. i put the whole jar of hair doctor in my hair (its a hair mask by the way!) and let it sit for a bit, then stepped in the shower and rinsed it out, followed by shampooing with rehab. i did this on a day i knew i didn't have to go out the next day. i left my hair to dry and didn't touch it the following day either.
the second day, i took a shower normally with my regular shampoo and then began to stop washing my hair everyday. i also worked harder at not playing with my hair or loading it with too much product. i talked more with the girls at lush as well and they told me that switching up shampoos will help too. if you keep wtih the same shampoo, your hair gets used to it. so i keep two or three on hand now so i don't use the same one everytime i do wash my hair.
so im not real sure if that all made sense haha but basically:
dont wash your hair everyday
switch shampoos
don't play with your hair because it puts oils back in
oh and the shampoos i have right now are lush's i love juicy and herbal essences drama clean. i also use lush's veganese conditioner on the hair from about my ears and down to the tips. i coat my hair really well in the shower and then either shave my legs or wash my face. by the time i'm done, i rinse it out and it's sat just long enough. that was all super confusing haha but i hope it helped!

I know it is a hard habit to break but try to eventually start washing your hair every other day, and no repeat. It took me a while to get to every other day, though it really helps with your hair.
Also do not apply conditioner or any oil/serum/moisturizing products near your roots
