hello beauties,
okay- considering its december, i have just about reached my maximum paleness of the year. i really want to go tanning in a bed, but im debating it! i know the consequences that could arise and thats why i'm so scared! i was thinking about going for one week, and then a few weeks later for one week. is it worth it?
thanks! xox

Step away from the tanning bed. One week of damage is enough to haunt you years later. I don't care what anyone has to say but when I was going through chemo for stomach cancer I met a woman who was once a tanning bed regular. She was diagnoised with the most destructive form of skin cancer that managed to spread throughout her whole body. She told me that if she could turn back the clock she would've never ever gone tanning in the bed or fried in the sun. She died in a hospice on the day of her 38th birthday. I would suggest using a self-tanner...St. Tropez has a complete line of tanners(for face and body) and on their website they have detailed videos on how to apply. Don't go the tanning bed route....its not worth the risk in the long run.

Tanning beds are tricky especially during the winter months because they feel so warm you never want to leave. This is where you can take it overboard, I'm from Michigan so trust me I know about that warm fuzzy feeling tanning beds can have over you in those winter months.
Being extraordinarily pale myself I completely understand why you would want to tan. For me I really have to resist the urge to go back to the tanning bed. You see a few years ago I was super obsessed with being tan to the point where I was way darker than I ever should have been and while I loved being that color it just wasn't the color I was supposed to be and my skin was super un happy with me because I really over did it. My face is really temperamental now and I have a lot of sun damage on my cheeks that is slowly but surely improving little by little. Now I really overdid it and that is the reason why my skin is the way it is and I know that. If I could do it all over again I would not have been going every other day for 20 mins at a time and would have worked for just a little color to look like I'm actually alive. I'm not against tanning in beds or in natural light but I am more aware of what is overboard and more careful about how I go about it.
IF your going to do it don't over do it and go infrequently once you've established a base tan and since its winter I would go no more than 1-2 shades darker than your natural skin color. You don't want to look like you have lived in the bed. Using tanning lotion is also a must since tanning will dry out your skin more right after tanning I would use a aloe based lotion on my skin. I also suggest shutting of the face lights on every other visit and do not scoot under them to get the stronger bulbs for your face. Yes it will make your skin look older faster and it will get dryer quicker, but so will a lot of things.
Hope this helps!

you should look into self tanners!! there are some really good ones out there right now
tanning beds are very damaging and it only takes once for you to cause permanent damage not only to your skin but your eyes as well!!

If you want a quick tan, if you have an event or like with the holidays coming up, opt for a spray tan, you'll get a nice glow with out the damage to your skin. :)

Sally Hansen's spray tans are my quick finishing touch to even out my pale skin. It's a much cheaper alternative to Duwop's lotion equivalent I used a few years back, and results are much faster than sitting in a tanning bed. =]

STAY AWAY FROM THE BEDS!!!!! They are dangerous and if you are lucky and don't get skin cancer you WILL get wrinkles ( learned this the hard way!) and I only used tanning beds for two summers of my life! My alternative to frying my skin is sunless self tanner ( with at least spf 50) I use Toma's tanning lotion and it gets me a believable bronze color and lasts fairly well. Enjoy being pale in the winter, I am , besides its the time of year when being pale is accepted! hahaha

If you have a chance to come across our Tantowels pick up a box and try em! I do web/graphics and work in Marketing so ask away for any self-tanning questions. And YES, I do use the products...along with testing all self-tanners we can get our hands on for comparison.

Having used a tanning bed every other day for two summers ( 3 months one year, 4 months the next so about 6-7 months out of my life) should I visit my dermatologist regularly to check my skin? Once I realized how bad the beds were I stopped immediately and started to wear SPF 50 everyday. I really regret using them I am just happy I realized how they bad they were before too much damage was done. I know I used them less than a lot of other women my age, some of my friends tanned religiously back in high school, I hope my mistake won't cost me my life.
