Let's be honest - we all love samples of beauty products :) I wanted to start a thread with best stores/boutiques that give out samples or your favorite tip on how to score some trial sizes!
My favorites:
- Lush: they will let you try anything in the store! I have pretty sensitive skin and wasn't sure if buying a tub of their fresh facial masks was going to work for me, so they put a few into little jars for me to try at home :)
- Olay: on their website, you can sign up for their mailing list and get notified of samples of new products or even full sized versions for free. I signed up and got their entire Total Effects line, regular size, for free! I'm now in love with their products because they make my skin feel amazing.

1) I have to agree with Wendy T. on Lush! They let you try all their products and if you want some to take home to try, they pack them in cute black plastic jars.
2) Sephora: I'm not sure if they still do this but the beauty associates also pack samples for you in clear plastic jars if you wanted to try something, like concealer or foundation. All you have to do is ask if you can take a little bit home to try it out first before you purchase.
Overall, I don't think it hurts to just ask an associate at the counter or store if they have samples you can use before making a purchase! :) I'll do some more digging to see what else I can come up with. Great topic Wendy!

Lush is great for giving nice samples. Ulta will also let you sample skin care products. I wanted to try Mario Badescu and they give me nice generous size samples.

I've had good experiences with LUSH, MAC & Sephora.. but I've never been refused samples at any department store counter, the product was able to be 'sampled'. Chanel, Clinique, Estee Lauder.. etc.
That's how I found out that my local Chanel counter's darkest foundation was too light for me. Better than shelling out the money for a full size & having to return it.
Thanks for the heads up Wendy, will definitely be checking out Olay. :]

Kiehl's is pretty generous with sending you home with samples. They aren't huge but you get to try a few items each time you go in.

I've asked for a sample pigment at MAC once and the woman told me they don't give out samples but one time when I purchased some lippies they gave me a sample of Jarin Aires, so I guess it depends on the person you ask .

Ordering online can also be a great way to get samples. I just ordered some Chanel nail polish and they sent me 4 perfume samples. Sephora also does this all the time! :)

I work at The Body Shop and we give packets of samples for new products (for example, we just got a new natrulift line and we have packets for those because it's brand new). We also do the sample jars.
And you can always use all the testers too.
All of these are great! Thanks for the info!

Sephora is definitely a great place to get free samples. And, I always get tons of samples when I buy asian products (especially as asian stores). I love samples so much that I recently subscribed to Birchbox.com to get their deluxe samples.

Over here (N.Ireland) you don't really get samples anywhere but from Lush.
If you go into stores, you always get your make-up done for free at the counter and that is how you would "test" the products and stuff

kielhs, body shop will mix you samples of the body butters i know.. sephora is fantastic for samples of skincare products i find, especially anything with a heftier price tag that you'd like to try before investing in. mac depends on the location, the product, etc like if its a pigment or an emollient or a liquid.. shoppers [for those who live in canada!] the ones with the beauty boutiques usually have an abundancy, especially of perfume samples.. there's also a website again for canadians called free-samples.ca i think.. just google.. they're great.. i got 5 blade razors, shave gel, all kindsa crap!! hehe

Recently my local CVS store launched a Beauty 360 store next door. Everytime that I have bought something there, they would give me a generous amount of samples. For example they gave me this great exfoliator that lasted me for a couple of months. It wasn't the typical measly paper packet samples, it was a small tube of the stuff! Also I collected enough points from shopping at CVS and Beauty 360 for a free facial. It was pretty awesome. =)

I only ask for samples when I know that I'm going to be buying other goodies as well. It feels weird to me to walk in and only ask for samples and not buy anything. I did that ONCE and I felt so guilty. Sephora is great at providing samples along with Bluemercury.

I agree with you Shelley, it feels like you just were there for the sample because it was free! My mom always picks up loads of samples during the holidays at the Estee Lauder counter in Macy's, that's when she stocks up on the gift set deals they have and I think because she buys so much they don't mind giving her 5-6 samples! And their samples are a pretty good amount of product!
