Hey dudes!

So every time I wear a lotion with sunscreen in it, my face turns red and starts stinging (in the same way a sun burn does)

So a few liquid fondations w/ sunscreen and tinted moisturizers does this too, and picking "sensitive skin" versions isn't helping.

Anyone else had this problem/have some insight into what ingredient I'm allergic to so that I can avoid buying stuff and immediately breaking out in a rash.

What is the active sunscreen ingredient in your lotion and the foundations and tinted moisturizers you've tried?

You might want to try a physical sunscreen...thats why I have to use with my sensitive skin in the summer cause i can't wear above spf 30 without irritation...I actually made a video about sunscreen ingreedients and picking one out for the winter if you are intersted...I also explain what a physical sunscreen is.

I am making a video soon pertaining to sunscreen specifically for very sensitive skin...but until that comes out...here are some tips:
-Don't put it on right after a shower or washing your face...cause your pores are open and it will soak in and sting more.
-Also try putting on a regular moisturizer first or mixing it with your sunscreen to dilute it.
-Splash cold water on your face before putting on sunscreen to help close the pores.

A friend of mine was allergic too -- all over her body. It was tough since we live in Hawaii, where it's hot and humid most days, and she has to wear pants and long sleeve shirts because of her fair skin. I remember her having to wear pants and long sleeves for our graduation rehearsal -- 3 days -- under the hot glaring sun for a few hours.

If you're allergic, I would just try to keep your face covered -- whether it be with a hat/visor or just not being in the hot sun from 10-2.

Hi Zita! I too am allergic to sunscreen. Unfortunately, everyone is different. I went to my doctor to try an allergy test, but since it wasn't severe enough (the way people get with peanuts or seafood - that kind of severe), my doctor wouldn't do it for me - SMH I know. But really it's more of a trial & error kind of thing. Yeah, sad to hear. Pay attention to the active ingredients. And question when do you pick up the allergic reaction? Do you become allergic when you are only exposed to the sun? Or do you pick up the reaction immediately after you apply the product?

Even if you are allergic, it doesn't mean you should stop protecting yourself from the sun! Because it is very important to wear sun screen.

Good luck on your search! Hopefully you still have some of your old products to narrow down your search. You can also try sun screens that are "natural" or that are labeled hypoallergenic.
