I have very oily skin and although I have controlled it mostly it still is not completely how I would like it to be! I would love to hear different tips and tricks or products for controlling oily skin!

It sounds crazy but I use Milk of Magnesia on my face. It works well to help control oil.

I need help with this as well. Im perpetually shiny. How do you use the Milk of Magnesia Nikki?
Sep 27, 2011
Nikki B.
@Adanna, I use a small amount on a makeup sponge and use it as a primer on my oily areas. It also really helped to reduce the size of the pores and black heads on my nose.
I left a link to a video I made about it above.

Could you use the milk of magnesia in addition to another primer under foundation?

Nikki B.
I don't see why not. but I would do a test run first to see if it make the makeup look too cakey.

I have become obsessed with the Urban Decay De Slick or even the All Nighter spray. Used them both for a wedding I was in in August and I barely touched up my make up. Held up well!

While out and about I use blotting sheets. It really gets the oil without messing up my make-up. I stay away from the one's that leave behind a fine powder since they tend to irritate my skin.

I have tried the All Nighter spray and it does control oil a little bit. I really do want to try the De Slick spray, I wish they had a mini sample of that like they do the All Nighter! I was using the Bare Minerals Oil control primer but after a while it stopped working. :(

Have you tried an oil controlling lotion? I'm just like you, I'm VERY oily & it seems like nothing will ever stop that - BUT I did however find something that helps it tremendously!
Have you tried the Boots Oil Control Lotion? It's $5 at Target. This does wonders for my makeup! It almost acts like a primer too - I live in Los Angeles & tend to get sweaty a lot, but this product holds onto my makeup well, & keeps it all nice & pretty after I dab any sweat off.
This is the best thing I've found so far that isn't a primer. I definitely suggest looking into it!

Andrea,
I will try this, too! Today I am wearing a lot of makeup, I filmed a tutorial before work, and ELF mattifying compact powder is holding it on pretty well so far!

Totally going to Target tomorrow and trying out that lotion Andrea!
Something that has worked for me and might seem a bit weird for some people is I apply a bit of the urban decay eye primer on areas on my face that get extremely oily. I use Eden and I apply it on my nose, chin, under my eyes, and a little bit on my cheeks. Helps when I am at work and I can't always run to the back and blot my face.

I hope you girls love it as much as I do!! This is the best thing I've found so far (non-makeup) for my oil control. Even my boyfriend notices a difference when I use this!
Danielle - it should be right in the middle of the makeup/skin care isle. Boots is a makeup line from the UK & have both a large selection of makeup & skincare that was brought to Target. They usually have half of an Isle - it's hard to miss. :)

I find that overwashing my skin tends to make it more oily to makeup for the loss from cleansing, so try to only wash twice a day, and use a gentler cleanser in the morning to keep balanced. Any masque with Charcoal or Sulfur will dray out bacteria, oil, or dirt! I use Giovanni Detox Facial Scrub everyday, and I use Queen Helene's Mint Julep mask two-three times a week. Other than that, just make sure you use a lighter moisturizer like Clinique's Dramatically Different Gel which keeps skin matte. I know that was prolly more than what you bargained for, but hoped that helped!

My skin is quite oily as well and one of the simplest ways to control it is by drinking lots of water. It seems like that wouldn't work but trust me, it does. And it's free!
