Hahaha, you weren't kidding! $5 for a $1 ELF all over stick.. $12 for a NYX trio? Ridiculous!
But I think the fact that they're based in Australia might have a lot to do with these prices.

Eww crazy! Seriously, Australians have it so bad for makeup. One of my fave gurus is alllldolledup, she's amazing and she lives in Australia, and when she says what she pays for stuff like MAC my jaw literally hits the floor.

Canada's got it good too, I just wish we had more Targets! We have lots of stores comparable, but they don't carry some brands Target does.

Hi Amanda, my name is Scott, I'm one of the Directors of Crush Cosmetics and would be happy to address the concerns you have raised. As you probably know, when you're in America things are generally cheaper as their cost of living is lower than ours. As soon as you import something from the USA to Australia though, you get hit with Customs Duties, Taxes, Shipping and so on. Also, as a commerical company, we incur huge fees on our shipments - we are not a one-off customer ordering makeup. Added to that are our costs here of wages, packaging, office rental, server rental, courier costs, advertising, bookkeeping fees, etc, etc.

We try our best to keep the prices down, but we have to consider all of our running costs when selling a product. Or allow me to put it another way; if you buy a carton of milk locally, it might cost a few dollars? Now buy a carton of milk in the USA and ship it to Australia - its going to become expensive milk in no time at all! Simply put, this is why you pay more for the item once it reaches Australia.

Don't forget too, if you buy an item, have it shipped to Australia and its faulty, you may well be stuck with it. If you buy the same item from us, you can always return it under the conditions of our return policy.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Kind Regards,

Scott.

Scott does have a point about customs. They're in the market to make money so they won't be selling NYX at NYX prices. Also other countries tend to raise prices - look at Canada. Let's say an item costs $10.99 in the US but in Canada it may cost $12.95 or $15.95 Canadian. That's just how things are because of import/export fees. Most companies like NYX will not ship internationally because of the import/export fees, duties and the price of postage.

Hi Everyone, I think Im understanding some of the confusion now - Amanda, you're based in the USA right? I'm not sure if you were aware, but our website and our business is based in Australia. Hence the higher prices. :-) our site is actually; www.crushcosmetics.com.au - not just '.com' The 'au is for Australian websites.

Have a nice day,

Scott.

It may be but you have to look at it from their business point. It's not just them, other Aussie companies have higher prices.

NYX, ELF, MAC, Sephora, Ulta, Beauty.com and so many other companies do not ship to Australia due to the cost of customs and import fees. Typically custom and import fees and duties can sometimes quadruple the items sent.

I once sent a package to a friend in Canada - baby clothes - and they were going to charge HER $40 despite the fact I sent her the clothes and paid postage. It's a complete rip off alright but not by the company but rather by customs.

No one is penalizing you for your opinion. The prices are indeed expensive but so are products sold from other Aussie sites.

Let's look at Lust Have It (similar to Birchbox in the US). They have Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Crème for sale on their site. Their cost: $14.95. US cost: $6

http://www.lusthaveit.com.au/hands-and-feet.html

Tips 'N Toes Hands & Feet Kit
Lust Have It: $24.95 http://www.lusthaveit.com.au/burts-bees-tips-and-toes.html
US: $13 http://www.burtsbees.com/other/gift-sets-kits/tips-toes-kit.html

Looks like they're trying to get other companies to resell (like OPI), Lush and so many others but Aussies can expect to pay two to four times more than those in the US and that's due to customs.
