I just bought a few of these pencils yesterday and did not pay attention to the fact that I could not sharpen them because the top is PLASTIC. Terrible. I'm going to try melting it though. Thank gosh Ava started this thread! =) BTW Amber, THANK YOU for your tip with the hairdryer, I'm trying it tomorrow!

Melting is easy. I've done it with my WnW jumbo pencils and body pencils and NYX's pencils melt the same way. Best thing to do is to remove the end cap from the top and push it out with like a chopstick or other thin item and put it into the pot first then melt it. If you melt it (like in most videos) it just makes a mess because the plastic casing also melts and bends.

I've never had a problem sharpening mine.. I just use Urban Decay's dual sharpener.
I will try cooling them first though, especially now with the hot weather. Great tip! :]

so for over a year now i have been looking for an answer to this question because my jumbo pencil came with a white plastic piece on it instead of wood. So after countless searches and no real answers and the multiple times i tried to sharpen it in the past, i finally go my answer. You need a NYX pencil sharpener to sharpen the ones with plastic on them. I don't live near an Ulta (so f*** me right?). No i went balls to the wall and tried my wet n wild sharpener (that was under a $1 i think). So hopefully this helps some one that was just as fed up with this topic as i was. (oh and i didnt have to freeze anything:)) Hope this helps.

I bought a nyx sharpener when I stocked up on jumpo eye and lip pencils and I just had to pull it out and use it for the first time to see if it worked. The NYX sharpener works!
I used to use professional art pencil sharpeners or knives to sharpen my makeup pencils since I was so used to doing so in art school(a separate tool from my art ones, of course). But it is tedious so I grabbed the nyx one and its awesome!

Yeah I just use a multiple width/gauged sharpener. Even the Ulta one works well

Use a sharpener from Staples , a basic one ment for bigger markers . The plastic will shed just as a regular wood pencil will

there are double sharpeners, one for skinny and one for larger. it took me a while to figure out that the larger side, which i thought was still too small, has a removable piece that when removed, fit the larger jumbo pencils.
