I'll start off by explaining my hair timeline. My hair was a jet black color that had never been dyed before. The texture is course and very thick, and the length stops at mid waist.

I recently decided to take a risk and ombre my hair myself.

*During the first process I used an inexpensive bleach called Born Blonde by Clairol that I purchased at a drugstore. Keep in mind I did not buy a toner at this time. This product lifted right away and turned my hair a medium dark brown. I waited about 2 weeks before I attempted to bleach my hair again.

*Second process I used Feria Wild Ombre Kit in "for dark to medium blonde hair" It turned a lighter brown and I bought Wella Color Charm toner in T18 which did NOTHING! I understand that my hair was probably still too dark in order for the toner to take full effect, but I thought it would at least make a significant difference.

Currently, the bottom half of my hair is a weird brown auburn color with flecks of metallic looking yellow pieces flowing through it. My question is if I attempt to try this again my desire is to go to a light ash blonde shade. Which brand is best to use that is not SUPER harsh on my hair. I've heard Quick Blue Bleach and Ion Brilliance powder lightener are great. There both blue based bleaches. Which is best? If, neither please list some other brands that you trust. Thank you! :)

I used to work at sallys and a few of my co-workers loved quick blue!

You will have to tone it though to get rid of any yellow/ Orange tones!

I heard that it is really harsh on your hair and scalp. But I think I might just go for it since I'm not adding it all over.

No toning isn't bad, there's no way around it if you want an ash blonde, the wella t-18 or t-14 are the most popular ones. the t-14 is a little stronger because it is blue based!

I'll check out T14! T18 did nothing but make it brighter and more of an obnoxious color. I hope the quick blue bleach and the wella will not completely fry my hair. Thanks!

If you were sitting in my chair, this is what I'd do.

Wella lighterner works wonderfully. Add a deep conditioner to the lightener when you go to lift it once more. Watch it closely, and use a 10 vol developer. Tone it with the color you want to reach. I think your hair is probably a level 6 (light brown now) I would lift to a level 8 or 9 on the just on the bottom. The top needs to be feathered a bit more into the dark base you have. You can either tease and do this, or use a feathering or painting technique. (Balayage)

Good luck :)

I actually perfer the Quick Blue to the Matrix V-light bleach that most hair dressers completely rave about. I've never used the Ion but I trust the Quick blue.

SydneyDale, Thanks I will definatly look into the wella lightener! :)

Danielle, yeah that's what I heard quick blue has a lot of great reviews and only a hand full of bad reviews. Although the bad reviews do say it is very harsh...like any bleach but I've heard that it stings your scalp and dries out your hair more than normal. Hm I might just buy it to see how my hair reacts.

Thanks for all your answers lovely ladies! <3
