You should get a trim whenever you start getting split ends. maybe try a dry shampoo so you don't dry your hair out from washing too much?

The longer you leave your hair the more split ends you're likely to have, I personally have my hair cut around every 2 months to help keep it healthy all the way through. As for washing, it depends on your hair type. Washing your hair everyday isn't so good for your hair as it takes away its natural moisture, I wash mine every 2-3days because I can easily hide grease with teasing and ponytails. If you have curly hair, you shouldn't have to wash your hair everyday but if you have straight hair, I'd say wash it every other day.
