I am *trying* to help my boyfriend improve his beauty/self care (no small feat). Right now we are trying for his hands/fingers. He bites his nails and used to cut his cuticles off with a box knife o_0 The nails are bitten very far back and the skin on his finger tips is so dry it will split if he hits it on things. I am encouraging (nagging?) him to stop chewing his nails and he has let me put cuticle and hand cream on his hands (even made him wear cotton gloves lol) but what other suggestions do you have?

Ha put some nail polish on his fingers and he will stop biting them because of the bad taste! Ha that probably won't work, you could put on Camo nail foils at www.tinninails.com that's about the closest 'manliest' product I know of ha. Good luck!

Give him manicures! I'm serious! I did this with my ex. Filed them, buffed them, he even let me put on a clear top coat. Lasted for a week. Treat him to this along with a moisturizing hand rub(which I'm sure he'll think is a treat) and you should see improvement!

aaww that's so sweet from you! :) and yeah I recommend manicures too if your boyfriend just lets you do it haha. and have you (both) thought that why does he bite his finger nails? is he stressed or something or is it just a bad habit? you could talk about it if you want to :)

I do the same as Shyla. My BF was a bad nail biter but once I started pampering him he really liked it and he promised he would stop as long as I continued the weekly pamper sessions (he gets facials, hair masks, pedicures, manicures - whatever he feels he needs for that week). At first I just started doing everything, now I just ask what he wants. He stopped biting his nails over a year ago.

And I would recommend a really good cuticle butter like Lush Lemony Flutter or Badger Cuticle Butter...Each night when you are watching TV or before you go to bed rub some of that into the parts where it is really dry and use just a regular hand lotion (I like Nivea) over the rest and treat him to a little hand massage.
