I feel like the answer to this is obvious, but somehow I always end up with painful hangnails and dead skin around my nails. I moisturize my nails once or twice a day! But I do admit I don't put lotion on them right after I wash my hands... and I wash my hands a lot. Could this be why my nails are always so dry? How do you get nice nails/cuticles?

maybe you should try some cuticle oil? and don't cut your nails, use a good file (made from glass) to keep them in a good length :) and what comes to your hand-washing, why do you do that? I mean that it's good to have care from your hygiene but do you wash them too often? :o you could also try some gentle exfoliator?

I basically wash my hands every time I blow my nose, use the restroom, before i eat, etc. I guess it's not a bad habit but it is for my skin... and should i get cuticle remover? Is that the same as cuticle oil?

I work in healthcare where washing your hands constantly is a requirement and constant hand washing will dry out hands and cuticles.Cuticle remover is used to soften and remove the dead skin you are referring to and should be used once a week to clean up the cuticle but it should never be left on your fingers, it needs to be washed off. Cuticle oil is better than lotion because it is more moisturizing but you can only use it at night because it is greasy and may take some time to soak in. You could get some cuticle cream like Burt's Bees lemon cuticle cream. It will moisturize without being so greasy like cuticle oil, and I would try to make a habit of always applying it at night before bed, and right after your shower.

Instead of washing your hands, do you think you could do with hand-sanitizer? Some of them have moisturizing qualities in them, which would help with the hang nail. Cuticle oil would help you hang nails as well, since a hang nail isn't actually the nail, it's dried and hardened cuticle.
