Is it normal?

I'm really trying to sort my skin out and I was just wondering is it normal to have a dry patch on your face but that also breaks out as well? My chin is dry but at the same time I have spots so it's hard knowing how to treat that area. I'm just a little confused.

I have that too :) the spots are caused by stuff going on under the skin and the dry patch is simply the outer layer of skin. It means that the spots are not caused by excess oil and dirt on the skin so I still use dry skin remedies but keep it simple and light and pat water on my face often and avoid harsh cleansers that can irritate the skin. And I spot treat after very specifically but make sure you don't spot treat too excessively because a lot of the time, spot treatments dry out the pimple meaning it can dry out the skin around the area as well. I try to drink lots of water to flush everything out from within :) I don't know if you will find that helpful ahaa.

Ahh I understand now! My skin can freak out a bit so I try to keep things simple too. Thanks so much Bonnie! :)

My skin is naturally hellaciously dry as well, though I do occasionally get a break out here or there. What I do is one of two things: I either apply an anti-blemish sticker, like these from Peter Thomas Roth: http://www.sephora.com/acne-clear-invisible-dots-P399932?skuId=1737774&icid2=D=c6:products%20grid:p399932 And I sleep in them overnight so that I keep them on for the maximum amount of time possible, assuming that I have nothing to do at night so I wash my face at like 8-9 pm or so, and then I get a full 11-12 hours of wearing them.

The other thing I do is apply a spot treatment after my full skincare routine, my preferred spot treatment is this one, by Sircuit Cosmeceuticals: http://sircuitskin.com/inc/sdetail/44378/43684 This one does work by drying them out, but as long as you make sure that you're taking care of your skin in all other regards, it should be fine. Obviously they make cheaper blemish busters, but I like this one because even though it's $30, it lasts forever and ever.

Any dry patch means the skins barrier is disrupted... Your break outs will continue until it's bought back to par.

Using a moisturizing yet PH balanced toner, a nice lotion that contains skin repairing ingredients and using a spot treatment once there is little to no dryness.

When this happens try to focus on moisturizing it first over treating the break outs.

As long as your skin is dehydrated it will fail to maintain itself. Think of it as like a flower, if you don't water and take care of it - it won't bloom.
