If that's the case, I highly recommend going to a dermatologist so he can examine your skin and see what would be the best results for you. This way you don't waste money or time slathering on lotions and creams or odd devices that can ruin the skins outer layer and cause irritation.
Chemical peels are nice and treat both acne and marks, but pricey and if you plan on getting several peels (5+) then definitely go for laser.
For example, my derm charges $90 per peel (42% salicylic acid) but it's $300 for laser on just half the face and no healing downtime( My problem areas are my cheeks ) so I'm going to go for laser.

I have hyper pigmentation above my upper lip so it drives me NUTS! My dermatologist prescribed Obagi, and it worked great... for about six months and then it quit working and the marks came back. Apparently Obagi is known to do that. Then they gave me Lyterra, but that did NOTHING for them. I have finally made an appointment to get the marks lasered. Since it's such a small area, I only have to pay $150. If I had know it was that cheap I would have done that in the first place! The products I bought cost more than that! I'll let you know how it works!

I've had a lot of luck with Makeup Artist Choice home chemical peels. If you are very good at following directions and know your skin, it saves a ton of money. I have used everything from a mandelic peel to a TCA to lactic. They have a ton and you can get a smaller sample bottle that will do more than a few full face peels for less than $10. They ship in two days out of Maryland. Really great company and results. They send an instruction card with everything to do and NOT TO DO. I feel your pain and have been on the road to clear skin for over a year. My 40s are killing me. Lots of Youtube with Gothmista, Stephanie Nicole and Carolyn Hirons too.
