You aren't going to look lovely afterwards. Skin is going to blister and peel and once that clears up...a clear canvas awaits you. Did your doctor prescribe any antibiotics? Its just a preventive measure to ward off possible infection (because they can occur). After your procedure its vital to stay out direct sunlight and to wear broad spectrum sunscreen since skin will be super sensitive and you want to avoid burns of that nature. I've never had it done myself but my husband performs them on patients and I watched my MIL receive one. She describes it being a 6 on the pain scale. She did it to address a pesky sun spot. The peeling...best described...she looked like she was peeling off dried Elmers Glue with new skin looking slightly pink/red blotchy in color. The results were most profound after about 6 weeks. Her skin looked gorgeous but it didn't completely eradicate her sun spot.

Cetaphil is your best choice because its super basic and soothing to the skin. Its what my hubs tells his patients to use after the procedure.

Do you no how long the peeling lasts I'm getting it done on a Thursday I booked the weekend off work I hope it's gone by then.

It depends on the depth/percentage. Medium depth probably about 3 days. The first day or so you will peel like crazy and it will diminish to minor flaking. Wise to take Thursday thru Sunday off.

Thank you for your help! which cleanser should I use? I usually use a benzoyl peroxide one but they said I can't till my face heals also what actually happens during a peel what are the steps the dermatologist does?

Stick with using the Cetaphil cleanser...do not use anything with active ingredients. Not knowing what dept of a peel you are receiving the most basic steps the doc will do is make sure your inner canthus of the eye area and nasolabial folds (nose) are covered with petroleum jelly. You will also see a neutralizing agent on a tray along with a syringe filled with saline in case some of the peel accidentally get into the eye and these funny looking q-tips to help clear away any tears from your eyes may shed during the peel. His assistant will also check your blood pressure prior to the procedure. And yes...you will feel like your skin is hot and on fire.
