So recently I've gotten some coconut oil for cooking and I hear it's great for hair. Looking through other posts about this and online I've found some information, but there are some things I need clarified/help with. My purpose for this is I have really long hair that need ALOT of conditioning and it gets tangled easily, and I normally have a dry scalp. I've seen somethings that people have said and what seems like a good plan is to rub it into roots and then work down, leave it in overnight, and then wash in the morning. The questions I have about this process is
1. I've seen online that I should shower before this (and I need to because my hair is super greasy), so should I dry my hair or is it okay to leave it damp?
2. Is this method the best way I should be doing it for what I want? Or is there any better way?
Thank you so much!!

This is a good method I've done it before except I mixed coconut oil and olive oil and left it in for about 2 hours and washed it out. And I didn't wash my hair before also only use about 1-2Tbsp of each. But if your scalp is really dry I would leave it in all night

I have done this but I mix the oil with suave naturals coconut conditioner to make the application easier. I apply it after I damp my hair a little bit wait at least an hour and wash my hair with shampoo to prevent it from being greasy.

I use it by putting it in my hair 3-4 hours before I shower and I find that I don't even need to use conditioner after I use it

Heck I just use it as conditioner. Only a little bit though because your hair can greasy. I would use just a dab for my hair.

I don't recommend using coconut oil on your hair I tried this and it left my hair really oily for a few days and I had to wear in a bun until I got it all out

You could mix it in a teaspoon or a tablespoon (depending on hair length) with a hair mask so you get the benefit of the coconut oil but still have a easier time rinsing it out.

As many other ladies I use it on dry hair a few hours before I wash my hair (often all night). use a light end if your hair is greasy. then follow with your normal routine.

I sometimes like to mix it with my conditioner just the smallest amount but beware do not over use it! Coconut oil adds protein to your hair which is great occasionally but if you do it too often it could cause your hair to become hard protein like your fingernails and actually cause breakage. You only need a protein treatment at most a few times a month for really dry damaged hair.

I use the one from Trader Joe's -- organic and virgin so very pure!
