I have a HUGE canker sore on the inside of my lip. I get them a lot but never had one this big! It's almost noticeable w my mouth closed. Anyone have any home remedies? (Ps...for those who don't know, a cold sore and a canker sore are a bit different! )

Gargle salt water!! ohmygosh I get them all the time and I gargle salt water and then in a fee days it's gone. You do have to do it more then once though and make sure the water is warmish.

Yeah I was going to suggest salt water too. I would do it pretty often, like after each meal and in between too...

Salt water rinses at least three times a day. And even though toothpaste aggravates it do not skip that spot. And if you absolutely don't see an improvement your family doctor can burn them. I had one under my tongue and because it kept rubbing my back molars when I would talk or eat or drink it wouldn't heal so I went in and go it burned. It's like a giant match stick. It tastes horrible and it hurts way WAY worse than direct salt to the sore. But seriously by the next morning all pain was gone and by the following day it was 80% healed.

Baking soda. My parents swear by Campho Phenique for cankers but you're not supposed to use it in your mouth but they do anyway.

This is weird but I literally just had one and someone told me to crush up a vitamin c pill and put it on the canker sore. it does sting at first but it seriously felt soooooo much better like it was gone the next day. literally just did this yesterday.

Thanks Megan for the tip! I get them all the time so I'll try that next time. Is it just a chewable tablet you crush?

Thank you!! I just did saltwater and luckily it didn't sting (compared to rinsing with peroxide) I'll have to try all of these.

Saltwater is what I usually would do but For me it would take a few days. With the vitamin c it felt soo much better the next day right away. Good luck :)

I get canker sores 24/7 and salt water helps a TON. Also, you can look in stores for relief things, the one in the picture I love (looks really grimy sorry) it does make me tear up a little bit but then it really helps. Also, I've tried swishing with Pepto-Bismol, it's not immediate relief but it's not harsh and is supposed to coat the sore. Hope it's feeling better!

Oh yeah---crush up a tums. I've heard that helps a lot with the discomfort. Some canker sores are actually similar to small ulcers in the stomach.

Stephanie is right about them being similar to tummy ulcers. I don't remember the medical term of a canker sore but it is oral ulcers. Some are caused by trama to the mucosa membrane (ie biting with teeth) some are caused by acid I fruits main culprit fresh pineapple. Sometimes it's caused by an imbalance pH of your saliva usually during that time of the month or if you have a cavity which will then introduce a bacteria to your saliva unbalancing the ph.

Sorry I had company over when I wrote that. I didn't mean to come off all know it all-e haha I always have at least two sores in my mouth. I'm a lip chewer, always! But I stopped eating overly salty foods, pineapples and most citrus (until winter with Mandarin oranges) and I was just born with bad saliva 😢 it really just hates me and try's to destroy my mouth haha. Anyway I have learned a new tip about the vitamin c so thanks for this post and hopefully tomorrow your mouth will feel better!
