Hi, I think it's important to take into consideration her event and be sure you're communicating with the client. There's no harm in asking lots of questions and coming up with an idea with her! I like to ask my clients to show me two different looks they like, and a look they HATE and then communicate to find something she'll enjoy that works for her.

I was just going to suggest that^
A few photos of looks they love and a couple they hate can really help you figure out their style, definitely ask what they like and hate about them, and ask what her favorite color on her is, and what colors she thinks would go well with the occasion and outfit she is going to be wearing. I find red lips in the right tone look gorgeous on everyone, so if she's up for it, and not wearing an outfit that'll clash I think a red lip would be a good suggestion. I personally love bright red lipstick on darker skin tones.
Ultimately I think a trial makeup session is all about communication and making adjustments based on her feedback. Sometimes you can go in with a plan to do a smokey eye and midway through they'll say something about how they hate the way smokey eyes look. So I think if you gather a few inspiration pictures for yourself, and then get her to show you a few pictures she loves and hates, then you can suggest things based more personally on her, and brain storm with her. Maybe bring a paper or face chart and experiment with color combos with her, and she can help decide with you. Or who knows she might come and go "I want this" and have a crystal clear vision of what she wants done.
