Okay , so 2 days ago , I went to the salon & told the lady to cut off my split ends & do a lot of layers , because my super curly hair always looks so nice & define when I have many layers. I thought everything was going well until I went home & washed it with DevaCurl (some of you may know what that is) & applied their styling cream. HORRENDOUS. My hair looks like a huge fluff ball & its not curling the way it used too. I'm so disappointed, I need some advice or some help.

I see the difference in the curls. have you tried any other style cream or have you always used that specific one? there are tons out there and maybe you just need to find the right one for your hair type.
in the meantime, try defining your curls with your fingers - like twirl your finger around small sections of hair.
Love your hair btw!

I've had this problem many times. it seems like a subtle difference when our curls just won't cooperate, but it is the difference between perfect red lipstick and a joker smile. as a side note, the stylist had naturally straight hair huh?
you can't cut curly hair like normal hair because it doesn't dry the same, but they don't always make that a lesson in cosmetology schools...maybe they just think its common sense? we have to deal with shrinkage and fluff and everything else. when our hair dries, it becomes a whole nother kind of beast. for your next cut, try to talk to the stylist and find out how much of a clue she has about cuts for curls specifically. I usually just ask how they like to cut curly hair. if she starts mentioning styles you can try instead of different techniques she can do, she probably won't be doing you any favors. lol. the guy I had found before I moved would cut my ends curl clump by curl clump and he cut it when it was halfway dry so that he could see how the curls are forming with each other. some curls are naturally more springy than others and cutting them the same length when they are wet and straightened with a comb will result in them being very uneven when they dry. I could be wrong but from the looks of things, and from my many past experiences, I'm tempted to say that's what happened here.
I haven't ever found a good solution other than styling the mess out of it, unless you are willing to find someone to correct the cut and lose another inch or so. I use its a ten leave in conditioner with keratine (I probably overuse it to be honest) after it dries to get a lot of moisture into the curls and some mousse, gel, or oil (depending on the day/style I want) and just crimp and toss the living mess out of it. if I have the time ill take a 3/8in curling iron and go over some of the more stubborn curls to make if more uniform.

Anyone who went to cosmetology school learned how to cut all types of curly hair. ^
The thing about curls is literally everybodies hair reacts differently. The girl that bleaches my hair has super curly hair, and mine is somewhat curly, but she had to find the perfect cut and products for her. She cuts her own hair because it's a super personalized thing that you just have to know the hair. My recommendation is to stick with one stylist for a long time till you figure out how your hair responds to everything.
Also, your curls will lay different with different weights. So you cut off some, and lost some of the weight to it, but that could have been a key factor in the way your curls curled. Curly hair is not one size fits all, and even the slightest change can completely change the curls. Like mine, when my hair is short, its straight, when it's super long, its wavy, but when it's like shoulder length, I have ringlettes. If I cut even a half inch to high or let it grow to long, the curls would stop being pretty and would go wavy or straight. Hair is weird, and it's all an experiment really.

Curly hair tends to frizz a lot, so since you got a lot of layers the shorter hair is a lot lighter and because of that it's not heavy enough to keep itself down. I guess you have to wait until your hair grows back.

To be honest it looks a bit more like frizz from dehydration than anything. Have you tried a hot oil treatment so that it'll help de-frizz and define your curls?

I had that issue recently it might have to do with the cut it might have to do with your hair being dry , normally if my hair is reacting weird and I just can't put my figure on it I deep condition it and let it do whatever for a few days and usually goes back to normal.
