Use a hydrating shampoo, or one that give oxygen into the hair like pantene hydrating something. And stay away from heat. Oil your hair twice a week. And don't tie it too hard into a pony, brsid, bun that from the front, you feel like a tug on you hair.

Erin's suggestion is good but I am so lazy so I did the following:-
1st cut all damage off.
2nd invested in Pro Naturals hair repair system.
3rd follow their regime.
Worked for me and so simple to follow. The only difference is that I use the argan oil leave in treatment after EVERY shampoo/condition.

I agree with Lin your first step is to cut off the current damage because you cannot repair it - unfortunately that hair is dead and you cannot bring back the dead no matter what miracle products you try - all you can do is prevent damage from happening in the first place but the current damage needs to be removed first / after that you can use moisturizing shampoos/conditioners as well as a deep conditioning treatment - try to stay away from heat as much as possible / from hot water to blow dryers n straighteners - if you have to use heat then use a heat protectant spray first then apply a serum to your hair afterwards to give it back what it lost due to heat - those are the best tips I can give that have given me healthy hair - now even if I don't get a trim for a whole year I still don't see any split ends until about the 1.5-2 year mark depending on how much heat I used on my hair and even then the damage is minimal and can be cut off with a small trim - so hope that helps :)

Get regular trims, just like a 1/2 to 1 inch every 8-12 weeks to cut off split ends. If you don't do it, the hair growing from your roots will be getting longer, but the ends will split up the shaft, breaking off & thus getting shorter. So it appears your hair is not growing. Also, I recommend, sulfate free shampoo, no heat tools, no dyeing, and try to get away with the least amount of washing as you can. A protein reconstructor treament once a month, no more, cuz too much protein can actually dry out your hair. And weekly moisterizing masks & oils will help. Also, try not to brush it too much or at all. Use a wide-tooth comb. And comb from the bottom up.

Contrary to popular belief, Oils should be avoided in a case such as this. Oils, when not shampooed out properly (More often than not, they are not shampooed out well enough) will build up and actually prevent hair from receiving the moisture is needs. If you hair is dry and damaged, I would suggest weekly Olaplex no3 to assess the interior portion of the hair and would suggest Neuma Neusmooth revitalizing masque as it has a quinoa protein that is more gentle than most protein treatments and contains a great deal of moisture when left on for only 3 mins. 10 mins even more. It can be slept in if need be. Most protein treatments, add too much protein without moisture and cause the hair to be even more brittle and to break more. You will also want to use a cream base leave in and stay away from heat if you're able to. This regimen will address all areas of the hair without risk otherwise.
