Best color for your face tone?

How do you know what color foundation is best for you? I don't want to look orange..

I actually always go in bare faced and apply a little test right on the side of ny face, along the jaw line. I find the colour of my hand doesn't exactly match my face (I wear a moisturizer with sunscreen!)
