What eyeshadow colors can I pull off according to my skin tone??

I've always loved brown shadows! But they don't show up on my skin very well because I AM brown skin! What can I do to help achieve this look?? Or is it just impossible?!

What neutral eyes do you think would go with a tanner, browner skin tone? Something to wear everyday like to school??
