Does prenatal vitamins really actually make your hair and nails grow? And is it safe to take without being pregnant?

I think you're supposed to crush up prenatal vitamins and turn them into a mask with your conditioner for the nutrients, taking the vitamins will make you gain weight if you take them while youre not pregnant. Just get Hair, Skin & Nails Pills at Wal Mart or Riteaid or any drugstore i think.

Well, I've looked this up a few times and its not really safe to take them if your not pregnant. They have extra vitamins and minerals that only pregnant or breastfeeding moms need. You can cause serious problems by getting too much iron, folic acid, and etc.

I've heard they make you retain water which causes you to gain weight if you take them orally. I've used them before but I crushed them up into powder form and put them in my shampoo. The down side they make your shampoo smell really bad.

Unless you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant I would not take them. Instead take Biotin but do your research and talk to a pharmacist before starting on any supplements.

Prenatal vitamins are for pregnant women only, i wouldn't recommend you taking these just to grow out your hair & nails.

I'm on prenantes only because I'm iron deficient. My doc has told my and my hubby that I really need high iron pills to keep me from (Literally) dying. He also said if i wasn't in such bad condition i shouldn't take them unless me and my husband planned on becoming prego. The high high (can't stress this enough) HIGH iron in it could cause thickening of the blood. And when you get a blood clot any wear in your body besides your period it could kill you. Although.... My hair was fallign out and after a few months of these it pretty much almost all grew back! They do help but are very dangerous if your not dying lol.. or prego.

Try a standard multivitamin if you are weary of prenatals. I took prenatal pills and my Dr didn't say anything bad about it but everybody reacts differently to meds etc. talk with a pharmacist or Dr before in case you take other meds etc to avoid any contraindications. A diet high in protein will also help nails and hair grow. I keep my cuticles moisturized and chop up garlic and place it in clear polish. Apply 1-2 coats a couple of times a week to help strengthen nails. As for hair growth, I minimize using heat on my hair and massage my scalp to stimulate circulation.

I am a breastfeeding mother of a 9 month old and my hair and nails are very healthy. I know women who take them And Are not pregnant or breastfeeding but there are vitamins out there specifically for growing out hair and nails, biotin And I believe cod liver oil is greAt for hair :)

its totally safe to take prenatal vitamins without being pregnant. its just a multi vitamin. although I have heard it might make you more fertile. not sure if that's true. But anyways it WILL help grow your hair. a lot of people try to do hair treatments but your hair grows from the inside. I would suggest taking Biotin which is made for hair, skin and nails. both are great.
