Unfortunately, going lighter isn't the same as going darker, try a mild lightener/ bleach, only leave it until it looks like it's lifting the pigment, then get a rich dark blonde color (ash is better) and streak it in, it'll blend better. I promise streaking it in is much safer than doing quarters of hair or whatever.

Maybe try colour remover? I used the jo bazz one yesterday and definitely recommend it :) and it has no peroxide or anything in it so its not too harsh.

Keep in mind that when using color removers your hair will be porous! That will lead to your hair taking your dye darker. With that being said I recommend a protein filler from Sally's to keep that from happening! Or go a couple shades lighter than you want.
Remember color doesn't lift color
