My favorite go to look for a night out is a dramatic smokey eye but I'm frustrated with the technique I learned long ago. after applying my base and crease color for blending, I use a black thick pencil I baught from sephora, and then I apply my black shadow over it just to make the black more intense. I feel like the black shadow alone looks dull. the thing with this technique is that no matter how quickly I try and blend out the black pencil its stuck in place and barely blendable. even after applying the black shadow I feel that the line from the pencil is visible. does anyone have suggestions for a better technique or product?

Use a primer then apply something like a paint pot from MAC. Just about every brand does a cream base/shadow. Apply it from the lash line to crease and blend. For a black smoky eye I like blackground paint pot. It has a bit of shimmer too so the black shadow you apply on top doesn't look flat.
