When I put a headband on, it creates a bump along the back of my head...Why is this and how can it be prevented?

It's too tight. There's really nothing you can do but stretch it

Okay thank you, does it make a difference that my hair is down with the headband in?

Do you mean does it make the lump bigger? Probably so because if your hair was up it wouldn't be going against the headband if you get what I'm saying.

I wouldn't suggest you to wear headband nor hats because it strangles the hair and stops it from growing.

Excuse me...You there... Yes you! With the punitive IQ! There are so many things wrong with this comment that miss Anissa has assaulted our brains with, that I feel I must correct. First of all, hair doesn't get strangled. Hair has no lungs... For that matter the parts of hair that you see are dead already so no matter how much you *strangle* it, it's not going to spontaneously choke out. That's not even biologically possible. Second, wearing accessories does not stop your hair from growing. It's not a plant. It's HAIR. Your hair begins growing from a root in the bottom of the follicle. If people *strangled*(lol) their hair by putting things on their head then men who wear hats would never need a haircut. I feel the worst part of this is that this is the internet. Almost every conceivable answer to every conceivable question is literally at the touch of a button, so next time before you go around giving people faulty logic and ignorant advice, I suggest you look it up...
