I tried oil pulling for the first time a few days ago, and since then I've had a bad cankersore on my gum and aching (annoying and a little painful) in my teeth and gums. is this normal?

I have a feeling it's not. I would brush your teeth, since with mouth wash, floss, & then call the dentist if it gets worse.

I get canker sores a ton, I get them before going on trips because my body is stressed out. I also got them a lot from biting my lip and my braces rubbing against my mouth. I would think it is normal to get them

Sounds like you had one developing before you oil pulled. I've oil pulled tons and never gotten a canker sore within the same month. I don't think unless you swilled the oil and bacteria that it could cause it at all.
You could get some OTC numbing cream like ora-gel to help with the pain. I'd go see your dentist if your teeth and gums still hurt in a few days.

Yes I get cankersores often and that could be coincidence. in fact it has healed already. it's the soreness that concerns me most. was a swishing too hard? is this a result of the detoxification? thoughts?

It might have been swishing too hard, but usually it's your jaw that'll hurt rather than your teeth. I actually find oil pulling makes my gums and teeth hurt less (I clench in my sleep so they're usually sore) so it's weird that you got sore afterwards. I'd just watch it and if it gets worse or it's still sore in a few days, go to the dentist. If it goes away quick, maybe try oil pulling again and see if it was just a coincidence or if your mouth just doesn't like oil pulling.
