Be careful with the words Ombre and Highlights. Ombre is a less subtle transition from dark to light and highlights lead to people thinking about stripy light hair strands. Instead, the term balayage is used for subtle transitions from dark to light. And it's a yay from me :)

Unless you truly have a great hairdresser start out with highlights. Let me explain a little more, I had great experiences with my hair dresser, I had already gotten Ombré and wanted to get it again but it turned out horrible. First, she gave me one gigantic highlight on my cow lick, then the bottom of my was blonde and it was a disaster. I ended up making my hair lighter because the blonde was so prominent. Ombré also ruins the ends of your hair so use coconut oil on the ends. If you get highlights and love them then go for the ombré, I can't remember her name but she did an ombré with highlights. It turned out beautifully, she was a main character in Sex & the City and was on glee.

At the hairdressers say balayage not ombre because this techmically isnt ombre so theyll do a different interpretation of this if you say ombre. but ifnyou call it what it is (balayage) then they'll understand. its a yay from mee x
