It all depends on your skin!
For myself I use water to take off my make up and and Cliniques 'Lids, lips and lashes' to take off any remaining product. Then I take Cliniques 'mild liquid facial soap' and wash my face! And finally I use Embrance probiotic face moisturizer.
The best thing you can do for your skin is take every trace of make up off, remove oils/bacteria and moisturize your skin!

You have to remember that everyone is different and your body will react to products differently as well. My sister swears by products with Salicylic Acid to clear her skin, but it doesn't do much at all for mine. I find that cleansers with Benzyl Peroxide work best for my breakouts. Definitely sticking to a routine is key. I also highly recommend a face mask 1-2x a week to keep skin clear. I love the Queen Helene Mint Julep mask, which is affordable and works really well.

I think that the ingredients that are proven to be the most effective are salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and retinoids. I try to use a little of all of them in my skincare regimen. I also like Proactiv which is primarily benzoyl peroxide based.
