I get mine from personal experience mainly - also I have a BS in chemical engineering n currently getting my MS in chemistry so I have a technical background in chemicals - otherwise the internet is a great place to do research so I usually read scientific articles and follow science groups on FB n through email to keep myself up to date on the latest technologies and once in a while a skin care "myth" will be the topic of discussion but really you can google most things these days just be sure it's coming from a valid source (as in government or educational website and not a blog or news article) and the info should be valid as well :)

I get my information from being a licenced Estheticain, working on clients skin for over 9 years and in the beauty industry for over 20 ,I think the internet is a good source but there is a lot of bad information on there and when I give my opinions I'm not only speaking from my educational background because I'm certified in microdermabrasion, advanced chemical peels, waxing, root causes of skin problems, and several other things ,I'm speaking from experience, from seeing it and actually doing it which I believe is better information than just reading it somewhere ,if you want more reliable sources try reading books on natural skincare alternatives since that's what you prefer holistic approaches to skincare not a blog or You tube.

School, mostly personal experience on hair and Skincare and from loving and researching chemistry in school and online. One of my best friends is also a cosmetologist school teacher, and a lot of my information comes from her textbooks and resources. I also know that a blog is not at all always a reliable source, and don't take them as facts, just as opinions. If I am interested in seeing if they're right I do my own research on it, through textbooks, other websites, case studies at the library etc.

Definitely agree with traci blogs, news articles and YouTube are all horrible places to get "valid" information since it's all biased from those places.

Experiences, books, makeup artists on youtube (I mean actual professionals not a kid in her room) and on here (Alma and Jacqueline :P). I've tried to wipe my mind of everything I learned from youtube and google and I try to be careful of my sources.

@ciera well it depends on what I am looking for. I go to a lot of different sites for reviews instead of YT. They are good for searching makeup/beauty deals.

I started off by going to YouTube. One of the best places to find answers to many of you makeup needs and enquires. As a WOC, hands down, YouTuber Destiny Godley changed my entire makeup game. And then came BeatFaceHoney, thefancyfaced, Makeup Game On Point, Beauty by Lee, MsRoshPosh, etc. who taught me a lot more about makeup than I ever expected to learn. Give those channels a shot, if you haven't already done so.

Like Diana, my background is academic (formerly physical anthropology and food science, now business). I get my information from textbooks, academic databases, peer-reviewed journals, and reliable websites.
For makeup news, product comparisons (e.g. dupes) and swatches, I recommend the website Temptalia.
For information about cosmetic chemistry and how products work, the Beauty Brains blog is amazing.
For makeup tutorials, I watch artists on YouTube: Wayne Goss, Makeup Geek, Lisa Eldridge, MadeYewLook by Lex, Misschevous, and VintageorTacky
For skincare information, I search medical journals.
