The girl in the picture is actually the maid of honor. I also applied makeup on the bride but that is an entirely different story.

It all started with the bride saying that her groom told her that he likes her to look "exactly how she does everyday". I asked her to elaborate and she said that she would like me to use her makeup applied like she does. Alright. First let me say that we did a trial run weeks ago and she loved it. Nothing was wrong with it.

So I'm applying her makeup. The eyes are fine and then she hands me three foundations. Each one differing in color. Internally I am gagging and wishing to Jesus she would just agree to my airbrush system because it matched her perfectly in the trial run. The first layer is Estée Double Wear, covered everything just fine. Then she insisted on another full coverage cream to powder over that THEN to top off the cake, a powder to give her an "airbrush appearance" or so she claimed. I'm gagging people, gagging. In the end, I didn't take a picture of the bride because I was not happy with how it turned out. How would you handle this situation?

Apparently so.

But her foundation was about three shades darker than her skin tone.

I thought the same thing!

I blame the groom for managing to get inside her head.

Maid of honor is gorgeous! And I've have to say, I kinda wish you had a picture of the bride because I just cannot imagine what that could possibly look like. Since that's how she always does her makeup she probably has loads of pictures that'll look like her wedding pics, so when she finally realizes it's not a good look she won't be able to blame you.

Sometimes people are just straight up crazy and think they know more then you, the professional. In my many years of doing hair, I have come across many brides like that, or just people in general. in that situation there isn't much you can do except educate them on why your "technique" for foundation is better and more photogenic and if that doesn't work then just bite the bullet and cake that crap on! I'm sure she will look back at her wedding pictures and realize that you were right.

She does look like Piggy Azalea, wow. lol.

Anyways, I'm with Maria, wondering why she even hired you if she was going to be difficult and basically do her makeup through you. She missed out though because the maid of honor looks flawless. Great work.

Does she have falsh lashes on?

I've had difficult clients as well. and to be honest it's kind of hard to change their mind when it's set on something. but that bride gets the crown for being straight out crazy. her saying that her boyfriend likes her like she looks everyday is called caked face he just doesn't know it.

she on the other hand should and should know better. I don't know what bride wouldn't wan their makeup done by a makeup artist on their wedding date.

I would have done both and taken pictures and then shown her the difference in her way and your way. Especially if the foundation color was off. If she wanted a little extra coverage you could have done that without caking it up. But in the end it is her wedding and she's the one who will have to look back on it.

That must have been irritating... these are my thoughts, the makeup must have looked horrible for the fact that she wanted it caked on, but the only right thing she did was that she made it a lil darker, I'm not a makeup artist and don't know exactly how this works, but jackie has told me that when doing bridal its better to go a shade or 2 darker (I'm not sure if she said 1 shade or 2) because when taking professional pictures the flash tends to wash the person off

I like Cindy's idea of the photos. Maybe if you don't already do it, you should take snaps of the trial run that way you can compare it. It's kind of sadly hilarious that the woman wanted 3 layers of foundation to achieve an airbrush finish, but rejected an actual airbrush as being too made up! That's the whole point of the airbrush is that it distributes the makeup in minute amounts so that you don't have a tone of foundation caked on there. As forthe fiancee's opinion, you definitely don't want to step into that minefield. If you have a nervous partner in the future, you could show them a pic of the trial run to calm them down. I think a lot of men are against makeup, because they think it looks fakey or too harsh or whatever without even realizing what good things it can do, indeed how most of the women they would think of as naturally beautiful rely on makeup to enhance their looks.

I hope you still charged her your kit fee and everything, even though she insisted on her horrible routine. I would've told her that her look is not going to photograph well, and that her fiance would be so stunned by how gorgeous she is that he wouldn't even notice the makeup.

If she still insisted, I'd make her sign a waiver saying she can't sue me or try to defame me if everything goes wonky because I told her it was a bad idea. You don't want her turning around and posting negative reviews and spreading bad word of mouth over something that isn't even really your work.

If she agreed to it before hand and then changed her mind the day of that is just insanity.Contracts are a must and being stern about what you don't have time for (childs play).it's in and out.I do two makeup trials months before with looks she wanted and looks I suggested and take pictures so the bride could compare and have a better understanding as to why certain products or techniques are used and it's set in stone products are written down set aside because when that day hits you don't have time to change it up or mess around and you explain that to a bride they usually get it because they don't have the time as well :-)
