Hey y'all, so I'm getting hair extensions for the first time! This is happening in a couple of weeks, and I'm sure I'll get a chance to ask my hairstylist all about taking care of them but I wanted to hear it from you guys also. So, my questions...
-are there any specific care tips that I should know about?
-do I have to worry about the color in my extensions fading?
-what's it like having extensions? not care-wise...what should I be aware of?
Thanks =)

Are you getting virgin hair extensions?
Dec 15, 2014
Hannah K.
I find that doubtful since they're going to be blue and purple =)

When I had mine I was told not to wash them often but other than that they were fine to do anything with. I thought they felt really heavy but I loved them just never sleep in them haha I did once and they were hard to get out and I also had a horrible headache

I was unaware that I would be able to take my extensions out, Brittany. Is that normal?

It all depends on the type of extensions. I wore extensions for years. I had clip ins and sewins. The clip ins I would wash every two week and I would maintain them with leavein conditionner. The sewins I had to wash like one a week since you can't take them off. At first they feel heavy and uncomfortable but I loved them and got used to them. What kind are you getting?

I believe they're bonded extensions, Lara.

I am a hair extensions fanatic :). My first question would be which type of extensions are you getting? There's all different installation methods that require different care. I've had beaded (the worst) , clip ins (convenient) and tape ins (more permeant any my favourite)! So if you give some info on if it's real human hair and which type you're getting I can give you some tips!

I would try to stay away from heat as much as possible. Cowash them with conditioner and not shampoo at least once a week. Try not to use a lot of products on the hair either.

Fortunately, I don't really style my hair, and I don't use products on it either =) Thank you Brittany.

-avoid hair styling products on them. It extends the longevity of them.
-Rarely shampoo them. Primarily condition.
-keep it hydrated and moisturized. Argan oil should do the trick. It needs nourishment since it's dead cells )like our hair) but with no source of nourishment.
-tie your hair up a night with a head scarf or bonnet (found at sallyys or the dollar store)
-you're not really supposed to wash them as often as you wash you hair. But if you wash them often, then yes it fades the same rate as your hair.
-it's pretty normal "00 you just have to keep your extensions from showing
