Yeah, never match your eyes to your dress/ shirt. It can look extremely tacky. I'd do a silver gradient eye and a nude lip. (:

I like the first one Teresa suggested. For formal events like prom, I really like when people do celebrity "glam" or red carpet style makeup. Oh, and I love the color of your dress :)

Go with golds or silvers. if you have a pink dress, it would look kinda tacky to have pink eye shadow (and probably pink lipstick?) so I would definitely do silver, gold, or brown shades for the eyes.
