Hi all, I've been reading about and trying the cat eye, winged eyeliner look but I'm noticing I might not have the bone structure for it. I think the bone above the socket is too pronounced, such that the liner flick would have a very bumpy path to travel. Does that make sense? Should I stick to the smokey eye instead? btw I'm new to make up so I might be talking rubbish!!

I don't think your sockets are to pronounced. If the travel of the eyeliner doesn't seem to be going smooth try pulling your skin taut before playing the liner. Also what kind of liner are you using? This could have something to do with your trouble. A easy way to do a cat/winged eye liner is to put eyeliner on as you usually would but leave extra at end of the outside of you eye. Then take your finger and drag outward as if your wiping under your eye. This will drag that extra liner out making a cat/winged look without all the pressure of trying to get it perfect. Hope this helps :)

have you actually tried it out? not sure if I'm not getting what you described but cat eyes are more about extending the lash line out and slightly up so shouldn't be hitting the socket...?

@stacey i'm using a max factor sponge tip liner. I'll try it the way you suggest - it does take the pressure off :)
@sarah I have tried it but I think I failed miserably. maybe coz I think i'm too old for liquid eyeliner again, having
used it already in the 90's. i'm 36 btw :)

I find sponge tip liners to be incredibly difficult to use. I'd try a brush and gel liner or brush-tipped liquid liner. I've used Urban Decay and MAC and am happy with both.

For a cheap decent quality liquid eyeliner which is best to achieve that look try NYC brand. You can find it at any drug or department store for under 10$. It comes with a brush too. The brush that comes with the NYC liquid liner makes it eyes to apply. Just sit the brush on top of you eyelashes, drag slowly an steadily and bam you have your cat eye. And stop saying your to old bc your not :P.
