I cleaned my makeup brushes last night with warm water and bath and body works anti bacterial soap...does that sound okay to you?
I made sure they had all the gunk out of them and did multiple rinses.

That process sounds completely fine to me :) I clean my brushes by first spraying a professional brush cleaner on it, then wiping the brush on a lint-free cloth to remove anything that may be on the direct surface of the brush. Since this can be very drying to the brush if done alone, I find that it's always best to then wash the brush with a moisturising dish soap (my personal favourite is the one by Dawn). This also helps to remove any product that is really deep down into the bristles as well. After rinsing a bunch, I lay then flat to dry on a non-cloth, steady, clean surface (such as a desk, counter, table, dresser top, etc.) and the next morning they are like brand new!
