My hair, at the moment, is a dark reddish brown (faded out from a dark/bright red). Now I want to dye it like the photo, but I'm really not sure how to get from a dark red to a ginger, will I need to bleach or strip my hair first? Please help!

Also, what dye would you recommend to get it like that colour? Not too bright please, my college doesn't want me having bright hair! :(

I'd say bleach it but don't leave it in as long. As far as dyes goes, try out the L'Oreal Paris Feria Multi-Faceted Shimmering Color in Copper Shimmer 74 (:

I don't know what beauty supply stores are near you, but see if you can find a color lifter called Higher and Higher. I think since your hair is already red you don't need to bleach it. You should be able to lift the color and make it more red.

Might be worth using a 'colour B4' colour remover before you dye! Will lift out some of the darkness with out having to bleach!!

never ever use live colours they will ruin your hair and will not come out of the hair unless its cut!? my hairdresser refuses to touch hair with this on x

Live color are a seriously horrible idea... Don't bleach use a color remover and save yourself from some serious hair damage

Thanks guys, I'll look into the hi lift! I'm not sure about colour remover as I don't know what my natural colour is - it might be too dark!

Honestly i recommend you just go to a professional especially when tryna go a coppery red i find its a very difficult color to work with you definitly are going to need to bleach it but you really have to pay closeeee attention because the hair has its own red underpigmentation unless your blond but you want to lighten your hair to the same level of lighteness as the color you want to go as soon as you hit yellow you've gone a little too light your red will look brighter than it should and fade out faster

Thank you Ashley. I do love my red hair, but it's such a high maintenance colour, and I can't deal with all the work and money I have to put into it each month. I've found that ginger colours are so much easier to maintain and are still quite fun without being too in your face (as college won't let me have it bright :( )
