My daughter is 2&1/2 years old. She has the most dry course curly hair! After I brush and comb out her hair free of all knots and tangles as soon as it dries I can't even stick my fingers threw her hair? I tried hair moisturizers and nothing can tame it. It also dries straight up. Any suggestions from mothers? Or hair professionals?

First she's adorable!

What products are you using on her hair currently? Her hair sounds like my sisters hair and my hair, both of which suck up moisture like no body's business.

Try maybe some hair pomedaes. Also coconut oil and almond oil for an hr and wash her hair as normal.

She's so cute. However I don't recommend that product since it is silicone based. I'd recommend mixed chicks for children and a oil like coconut for sealant and to style it I'd suggest diffusing. I am also natural and going through the same thing.

When I was her age my mom, aunts and older cousins use to do my hair with baby lotion. Idk if that's a good idea or not but my hair was always super cute in my baby pics lol.

She is beautiful! Use olive oil cream and cantu leave in conditioner. it will leave her hair mosterized, soft and silky. Her hair will be much easier to maintain.

I posted a super long reply last night and I'm so upset it didn't post. ;_;

But don't use a silicone based shampoo as it'll suck the moisture right out of her hair. Try using As I Am Coconut Cowash or the Mixed Chicks Shampoo Queen recommended, Aunt Jackie has a nice one to. For a leave in conditioner (which is super helpful to use) I use the Miss Jessie's leave in condish.

Also, don't wash her hair to often. My sister is 1 and I'm 21 and our hair only gets washed once a week, hers twice a week if her mom puts heavier products in her hair and my mom wants them out. African American hair tends to be weaker then other types already so to much washing done incorrectly can hurt a lot more then help.!

For detanging if her hair is as thick as you say it is, you shouldn't be using a comb. Buy a Denman brush instead works A LOT better, start from the bottom of the hair and work your way up. Before that though use a good detangler. I use Aunt Jackies right now but to help with the moisture factor I mix it with Shea butter that I bought from coastalscents.com. I mix the two, put it in my hair after I wash it (and my hair is damp, not wet - and dry her hair with a t-shirt not a towel, it's gentler on the hair and dries it faster) in sections and then brush through with the Denman brush. I then put an oil mix on that section (coconut, vitamin e, and jojoba) to seal in that moisture (SUPER IMPORTANT) and then apply a cream based moisturizer, I use the Camille Rose Curl love Moisture milk. It's a lot of moisturizing, but it's called the LOC method (mine is a little extra with the Shea butter step but it helps) and with it I don't have to moisturize my hair for days.

But try doing simple twist out styles on her hair like two stranded twist as it'll give her hair some kind style. Try this:

Do not play whit her hair. it will grow of. and become better. if you put cemicals on her hair at her aged will do it worse for her wen she grows up. just let it be. do not wash it whit shampo. just 4 in a month. wash her hair just with a conditioner. I hade her hair wen I was at her aged. my mom tried to do better with my hair to cut and explore. do not do that please.

@Tanya - Aunt Jackies I bought at my local beauty supply store (or I think this one was KC Beauty Mart), but check Target and Walmart for it. Miss Jessie's Leave in Condish, As I Am, and the Moisture Milk are all at Target (and the moisture milk smells like yellow cake mix for some reason and it's great).

And here's a picture of my hair wet and my sisters hair dry so you can get an idea of what our hairs like and what the products are being used on. Hope this helped!

Oh, and I'm with Nora on the shampoo part. We only shampoo our hair, or well I shampoo mine and my sisters gets shampooed, once a month. Sometimes she gets it done twice, but other then that I use the Cowash or another conditioner to co wash my hair with. And I'm really just considering shampoo out all together as I don't really need it.

Aunt Jackies is at my local family dollar for $4.99 each , as I am cowash is at Walgreens for about $11.00. I don't used Miss Jessie because she is a bit pricey.

I need to move where you love...But I bought my Cowash for $8 at Target or Sally's. And Miss Jessie's is hekka expensive (which makes me sad because my hair loves it) but the leave in is $11.

Her curl pattern and length is probably causing it to dry upward. curly hair can not be combed unfortunately so you have to do that in the shower or when washing it. my advice is to just use a lot of conditioner to moisturize her hair so it can grow healthier and longer. its just going to be a waiting game.
