So I'm in a need for a haircut. my Hair is long and the layers I had have grown out a lot. I think I'm going to stick with the deep red, which doesn't show up in photos, but don't know what cut to get. my Hair is also very thick and heavy.

Yes I second the choppy layers, think that would work great with your hair and take a lot of the weight out :-)
