Hi,
I have hyperpigmentation on my face. It's genetic and not hormonal or due to sun damage - it's even in my baby pictures. My dark, under eye circles are easily covered by concealer. The dark spots on my cheeks are greatly minimized by concealer. However, the hyperpigmentation above my upper lip and corner of my mouth are not covered by concealer. It's also only minimized by 25% when I use a colour corrector, foundation, and concealer.
So, right now I am at the point where I am considering professional level treatments. Right now I'm trying to find a good moisturizer with a SPF 35+ that I like (to prevent re-pigmentation from sun exposure), and once I do, it's off to the dermatologist.
I'm obviously going to discuss this with a dermatologist, but are the options out there? Anyone have similar issues? What did you use? Anyone have before/after pics?

I have hyper pigmentation on my cheeks and I've been using a face wash that's been helping but I don't remember the name of it because I can't find it. Have you tried using a green concealer? That helps on the days it's really bad.

My mom has the exact same thing! Nothing she tried was working! She recently went to the dermatologist, and he prescribed Tri-Luma for her. She just started on it, you are supposed to put it on every night before bed. Like I said she just started so she hasn't really seen results yet, but it is supposed to really work! You might want to check it out.
Good luck ❤️

@Bryanna, if I am correct, no concealer will fully cover it.

I can tell you that any pigmentation you were born with will be very hard to remove I do chemical peels ,microdermabrasion, and led light therapy on clients and none of those will remove pigmentation problems that your born with, only a laser can ,the problem with birth marks is they go down so deep into your skin ,a laser would be the only thing that can penetrate the epidermis and go down deep enough and target the discoloration because it will foucs it's beam only on the dark area and leave the good skin undamaged,it does hurt you will have brusing,it feels like a rubber band being snapped on your skin but they do numb the area and you may have to go back for multiple treatments.but it can make a huge difference

@faith what is cost of the prescription?
@traci - how long have you been doing laser treatment? I'm of African decent also and have you had any adverse effects from the laser?

I know you said you were born with it, but another tip to minimize the darkness is to make sure there is no hair there. I would use a depilitory. Which will remove the hair on the surface of the skin & slightly below the skin. Even having the tiniest amount of hair above the lip can contribute to darkness. I'm not a fan of waxing because I use retinols on my face. Retinols & waxing don't mix. The retinols make your skin more fragile to being ripped off during a waxing. But, if youre comfortable with waxing, its just as effective as a depilitory. When using a depilitory, make sure you follow the directions to a "T". It can inflame your skin if you leave it on over the recommeded time.

I don't do laser hun I do micros ,peels, and light therapy ,and im meaning on clients , and they do make laser than will work on deep skin tones now ,but you really would have to get a consultation from a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist certain birth marks can't be removed ,once your dermatologist has checked it they can tell you if a laser would work or if it's light enough to use topical treatments on.
