If your going to get them your going to get them, there is not way around it, you can use oils and creams for the severity of them though

It's often heredity dictated by thinness/thickness of skin, but monitoring weight progression is a good start. Skin stretching due to rapid weight gain is prone to tearing so gradual and healthy weight gain may help. I'd also stay moisturized simply because it avoids an itchy irritated tummy. Hormones, too, play a role for many women. All she can do is take the very best care of herself as possible. Genetics determine so much during pregnancy. Congrats to her!

Whatever you do...don't scratch the skin if it feels itchy. Just apply a moisturizer or an oil. That's what I did and following the advice that Rozberry gives.

I did nothing to prevent stretch marks (I hate lotion, don't ask LOL) and at 36 weeks got AWFUL stretch marks. I used Strivectin after I had my son and they faded to skin tone completely. I was really impressed with the product!!

You can't prevent them like someone says if your going to get them your going to get them but applying that stuff can help minimize.

After 3 kids, two who are 20 months apart, I have only a few marks near my belly button. I've got more like loose skin around my belly button. I did oil my belly but you almost have to because you feel the stretch! What really gave me stretch marks was when I gained weight rapidly on medication. I have stretch marks all up the inside of my legs. Luckily they have faded significantly.
I truly believe it's all genes. I've seen girls barely gain any weight and have horrendous stretch marks.(not to scare anyone!)
